Robidas to TO (3 years, $3mil cap hit)

Let's hope he doesn't break a leg yet again.  :o

Seriously,  he will be a solid piece of our porous defence.  (sigh) though at what price.  3 yrs/$9M is a bit steep for a veteran of his age, but if that's whom the Leafs management wanted, then so be it.  A cap hit  $3M doesn't make it catastrophic in that sense.

I dont know why 3 mil a year for an established player can be considered  steep, when we pay rookies a 1 mil who have never played a professional game in their lives. Yes three years may be a little long, but maybe he will catch the "chelios bug" and play well into his 40's.

Oh my! I like this move. He is gong to be just what we need, for all of our young defencemen.  They will learn from him big time.

He may well. Or, he may break both legs and need Clarkson to push him around the ice in a chair with blades, and take on anyone who laughs at him. Both are possibilities.

I was out all day yesterday, so when I caught wind of this signing and that it was 3 years, I was a little disappointed.  But it's liveable, as is the price.  A steady, right-handed veteran on the blue line will come in hand and is something the team needed.

Hopefully there aren't any effects of his injury going forward.

Not sure if time to be concerned yet, but FWIW:

I'm feeling great. I've been skating since the end of June, skating pretty hard, training hard in the gym trying to get back to where I was. Everything has been really good. I was in Toronto last week, I'm not cleared for contact yet [...] but I've been skating really hard with the power skating coach and doing lots of stuff, so I've been feeling really good on the ice. So that's very positive.

Maybe it's just a formality?  As the article states, it is good news he's been able to skate this much.

There's still a month until the season starts, so, I'm not overly concerned. It could just be one of those things the medical staff didn't feel needed to be addressed before training camp really got underway.

Yeah that was where my thinking was going with the formality part, maybe just hasn't had that examination yet.

Still, I'm a little bit concerned...like a 4 out of 10 concerned.

He also likely wasn't playing any contact hockey in the summer time and there wasn't any need to have that examination yet.

Some more on Robidas:

@kevin_mcgran

stephane robidas may not be ready for start of #leafs camp (knee)

@jonasTSN1050

Stephane Robidas says his goal is to get into the final two preseason games. Says he feels fine physically. Hasn't been cleared for contact

Still lots of time, but worst case, we can audition one of the young guys (Granberg, MacWilliam, etc) for however many games he's out.

Siegel has since added:

@jonasTSN1050

Robidas: "Honestly, I feel fine. I have no pain...for me everything is fine." Says he and team just want to be on the safe side.

So maybe still nothing to worry about, but I guess still not ideal.  Very likely that this was all known and expected on July 1st though.

I'm not familiar with how this works, but would they even look at clearing him for contact prior to camp?

Didn't he break the same leg twice? I certainly understand taking it slow. If he can do full out skating drills, then there won't be significant conditioning issues.

Broke each leg IIRC.
Let's hope he doesn't break his third leg.

Same leg (right). Second fracture was just above the first one.

The 2 seconds of googling I saved was worth it, though.
