Pulling so hard for this kid.

Not likely to be game action, but he is hanging out with the team and participating in meetings, so it's a very positive step towards his projected November return.

This makes me happy for so many reasons

I'm slightly confused?  How did he end up in Toronto?  Just a mutual opportunity due to his ongoing recovery?  I know being away from home sucks but with all the mess in Russia I'm kind of hoping he could just stick around in North America.

Dubas last month when training camp started:

?[Rodion] Amirov; we had a follow up with he and the doctors that are managing it from Moscow and Germany.? Said Dubas. ?It?s obviously become a more difficult situation to manage in person as things have developed in Europe. So, where he?s at is that he?s through his final round of chemotherapy, and what we?re working on now is a consultation appointment with an immunologist to see if he?s able to travel over here and be around the team to train and participate in on-ice training, and hopefully return to play.?

It is very nice that Amirov?s hometown team continues to sign him so he can receive medical treatment.

Will the Leafs recieve a compensatory pick for Rodion?

I seem to recall the Rangers receiving a pick a few years ago when one of their prospects died.

Not to sound callous here, it obviously doesn't matter, was just curious.

Cherpanov was unsigned and there is a NHL rule for a compensatory pick for 1st rounders if they do not sign.

"Compensatory Picks: If a team does not sign their first-round pick within two years, they will be awarded a compensatory pick in the Draft immediately following. The pick will be in the 2nd round, equal to the selection number of the unsigned player. All other teams' selections move back one spot."

On Apr 15, 2021, Leafs signed Amirov.

On Feb 23, 2022, Leafs announced Amirov had a brain tumor.

So technically, the Leafs do not qualify.
