Round 1: (P2) San Jose vs. (P3) Los Angeles

Los Angeles 4  San Jose 1.  Series now tied at 3 games apiece.

Anze Kopitar and linemate Justin Williams provided plenty of scoring dramatics which included a good (& determined) supporting cast as the Los Angeles Kings staved off elimination in a tough, physical matchup against their nemesis, the San Jose Sharks.

Not that this series hasn't been physical, it has in large part thanks to San Jose, who stormed out of the gates and battled down an L.A. Kings squad that looked more like they were on making an early exit in this first round of playoff action.

Not to be outdone, and down three games to zero, the Kings came to life, namely, first, goaltender Jonathan Quick, who suddenly or once again recaptured his goaltending magic, and secondly, the rest of the Kings team that meted out punishment of it's own, both on the scoreboard and on the ice.

Here we are now, series all tied up.  For Game #7.  Will the Kings win or will the Sharks fold?  It's anyone's guess.  The drama continues.

eduhatschek: Kings become 9th team in NHL history to force a 7th game after falling behind 3-0 in the series. Only 3 have ever come back all the way.

2nd time in 4 years it's happened to the Sharks.

A week ago many thought the Sharks were learning from their past failures and were poised to carry it over to a Cup run.  Now, I doubt many people think they'll win the game tomorrow night.

If indeed the Sharks lose the game tomorrow night, I wonder what the fallout will be from there.  They'd finally have to do something drastic to shake things up one would think.

If they win game 7, Mike Richards and Jeff Carter become the only two players on different teams to come back from 3-0 deficits to win the series? Wow.

It's a shame San Jose had to go and re-sign Thornton before the playoffs. A collapse like this may have caused them to do something stupid like let him walk.

Maybe they'll get rid of the coach instead.  :)

If heads have to roll that's pretty much their only option. Not sure he'd be my first choice, but we could do a lot worse. There's a Shanny-connection too as Shanahan's final season in Detroit was McLennan's first as an assistant there.

If the Sharks lose I think Wilson and McLellan are both gone.

How many kicks at the can have both of these guys had, yet still manage to never get this team over the hump?

05-06 - lost in conference semi finals
06-07 - lost in conference semi finals
07-08 - lost in conference semi finals
08-09 - lost in conference quarter finals
09-10 - lost in conference finals
10-11 - lost in conference finals
11-12 - lost in conference quarter finals
12-13 - lost in conference semi finals
13-14 -

That's a pretty impressive record...making the playoffs in all consecutive years since '05 and making it twice to the conference finals.

Since 91, they have only missed the playoffs fives times.

I think they've also been victim of some tough matchups - I bet in the East they come out of the East to the Finals a couple times.  So many of their series' could go either way that it's tough.

That may be the route taken but, honestly, I really don't know what more you could want from a GM.

Yeah. Hard to really fault him for anything. Just might be time to go another direction.

It's funny. I actually like the Sharks' collection of players, think they have one of the better and more dedicated fan bases in the league and actively dislike the way the Kings play but I can't deny that it's a little fun seeing a team come back from 3-0.

I just enjoy seeing franchises I'm jealous of bowing out in the first round.  It shouldn't in any way make me feel better about the Leafs, yet somehow it does.

See, then I'd be going the other way. I'd have to imagine it'd be pretty frustrating being a Sharks fan.

It's kind of crazy how things turned for the Sharks. They scored 17 goals in the first 3 games of the series. They've only score 5 since - and 3 of those came in game 4.
