Carson Soucy is getting a hearing for cross checking McDavid in the face last night after the horn, and Zadorov got a max fine for cross-checking McDavid at the exact same time in the back.

This is similar to the Rielly/Grieg incident, Kadri/DeBrusk. Stick to face retaliations are no-nos.

But if you sock someone in the jaw or back of the head under the guise of a hit or body contact, then it's cool.

The Soucy crosscheck was obviously bad, but Zadorov hitting McDavid from behind at the same time made it so much worse. He doesn't get the stick into the throat without that.
