Saad to Columbus

Anisimov and Dano go back to Chicago.  I think Columbus gets the edge on this one but for Chicago they do get some depth and Dano and Anisimov fit in with Chicago's two-way play motif and get two players for essentially the cost of one.

I guess it's a trade Chicago needed to make. Didn't make out too badly all things considered.

Deal is a little bigger:

Bob McKenzie ‏@TSNBobMcKenzie  1m1 minute ago
Morin, Tropp, Anisimov and Dano and 4th in 2016 for Saad, Paliotta and Alex Broadhurst. CBJ-CHI deal.

At first I thought that this was a huge win for Chicago but didn't realize that Dano had 21 points in 35 games last season as a 20-year old. Obviously a small sample size but I'm guessing Chicago sees something that they really like in him.

Rumour is that Saad was asking for 6 years at $6.5M. Chicago couldn't do that, but another team definitely could have gone the offer sheet route at that number. Obviously, the Hawks preferred to get a couple players with NHL experience over draft picks.

Anisimov extended at $4.55 X 5yrs.

Seems heavy to me.

I think that's just kind of the going rate for a guy who can put up ~20 goals and ~40 points now. Also, he'll earn $4M in actual salary in the last year of his existing deal, which plays into it, as well. 5 years is a little excessive, though.

Well, whatever makes Bozak and Lupul more palatable to other teams.

Maybe, though it doesn't take away Lupul's injury issues and the questions about Bozak being able to produce without Kessel and JvR.

Kinda weird that they balked at Saad's asking price but paid Anisimov that. I figured they could have gotten Saad for about a million more. Maybe they think he benefited greatly from Chicago's system/players and that Dano can put up similar results on an ELC. Still, committing to Anisimov for that long seems off.
