Saad to Columbus

In his 3 years with Chicago the 4 players he spent the most amount of even-strength ice time with were Toews, Hossa, Keith, and Seabrook. Guy seems like a very good all-around player, but I'd be a little concerned if I was a team that didn't have those 4 players (i.e. every team other than Chicago).

I'd agree but if they plan on having Saad be the third wheel to Johansen and Foligno it seems like he could fit in nicely there and deliver more or less what he did for Chicago.

Whether or not that's worth 6 million...

He was pretty consistent over his rookie contract.  48 points (projected 82-game pace), 47 points, and 52 points.  If his game develops over the next year or two to become more of a 65 point player I can see it being reasonable given the rest of his game.

What's going on here?  After a pretty reasonable UFA day, this seems a little bananas.

A continuation of the recent trend where RFAs get horribly overpaid relative to UFAs.  I don't think this is new.

I think the fact that the UFA market has been so bad lately and seen such mediocre players get such rich deals lately it's easy for agents to urge clients to take short term deals and then cash in as UFAs.

As a result teams are generally caving to avoid that scenario and paying RFAs as though they were UFAs.

Does not bode well for re-signing Kadri.

I mean, maybe, but I was never expecting a long term deal there anyway. I think he needs to re-establish himself as a good bet going forward for the team.
