Sabres fire Ruff

And for someone who uses it constantly, you've done a pretty poor job of reading sarcasm. But I suppose I could edit my previous post.

As a professor once said to me, it's not my job to interpret your subtext. :)

Sabres promoted Ron Rolston (Brian's older brother) from the Amerks to take over as coach for the rest of the season. Lots of experience in NCAA and the U.S. Developmental program so he should help turn around some of the young guys on the Sabres.

As for Ruff I thought he was a good coach, but the players had grown tired of his message and the writing was on the wall that they were overdue for a new coach. The Leafs sure have had their struggles with the Sabres during his tenure so I look at this as a positive for us. I'm still not over the 99 Conference Finals when Hasek was out for Game 1 and we lost to Dwayne Roloson!

wow.....i'm a little late getting to this news..

i still hold a grudge for him yelling over to the leafs bench during the playoffs "your goalie is done"  ..in regards to cujo.  But love him or hate him he was always there.  No matter how you look at it, end of an era.

Wow! a case of the wrong guy getting the can. I'll bet Burkes GM there before next season.

Not the wrong guy, only half of the right guys getting the can.

The Burke whispers are getting a little louder. The interim coach adds to the intrigue that Regeir was not given permission to do anything long-term.

Leafs coach Carlyle on the Ruff firing...

For some reason, I didn't think of that yet but.... makes sense.  I wouldn't be surprised.

burke just down the road kind of sucks..and any advantage that you might generally have with the friendship of burke and nonis ..for finding perhaps a mutually beneficial deal or two gets overshadowed by the desire to not help a divisional opponent

I've been thinking about this -- say Burke ends up in Buffalo as speculation suggests may happen.  Would this all but assure Eakins would follow suit and get his gig as an NHL coach?

Eakins is one of the first names Sabres fans mention and we all know the ties with Burke.  Align that with his out clause come the end of this season, and it seems to make too much sense.

In that scenario I could see Eakins going to the Sabres which is funny since Eakins as a coach was being put forth by Nonis but Burke wanted Carlyle.

Burke in Buffalo would be great... I envision a third jersey/logo featuring a likeness of his own gigantic buffalo head.

Where was that said?  Too lazy to trawl google if you have the source handy.

When the club was looking for a coach to replace Ron Wilson in the grim days when last season transformed itself into a lost season, NHL sources say Nonis went to bat for Dallas Eakins, then and now the coach of the AHL Marlies.
