Sabres @ Leafs - Mar. 7th, 7:30 - TSN4, TSN 1050

I kid a lot about the Tank, but Nylander went low glove and had Johnson beat. He just missed the net.

I rest the blame for this loss squarely on the referees.

I also see more promise in the Leaf's rebuild over the Sabers, even though we're a year behind and they have some very nice pieces in Eichel, Kane, O'Rielly, and Reinhart. Kadri vs. Eichel is a great way to rebuild the rivalry.

Ristolainen is a pretty good piece as well. I was impressed with his game.

Oh yes, him!

The Finns are producing some top tier talent nowadays, not just goaltenders.

Buffalo's rebuild went off the rail's with those two lottery losses and losing out on the sweepstakes for Babcock, who they supposedly had on lockdown. They could have had our coach, McDavid and Ekblad. Lol.

I think the Buffalo rebuild's going fine. It's just going to take more than a year to get from where they were last year to being a good team. Anyone who expected otherwise probably wasn't thinking too straight.

They were just indescribably bad the last couple of seasons. They finished with 54 points last season, and 52 points the season before that. For comparison, the Leafs right now are at 53 points in 64 games. This season though Buffalo is on pace to finish with 77 points. A 23-point improvement. And that's with their starter injured for most of the season. I would have to imagine that's got to be either the biggest or one of the biggest increases or decreases in points the league has ever seen.

They also have, by my count, 12 picks in the upcoming draft. Including potentially three extra third round picks(or 1 extra second and 2 thirds). They'll be excellently situated to take their choice of the top defensemen in the draft(if not one of the Finns or Tkachuk to play on Eichel's wing).

That's on top of the fact that in the last three drafts they've had 4 first round picks and 7 second rounders. They've dealt a few of those picks but there's a farm system behind them.

Looking at prosportstransactions.com, there's no potential for them to add a 2nd round pick this year - the conditional 3rd could turn into a 2nd in 2017. They potentially have 3 extra 3rd round picks (and 2 extra, minimum). Outside of that, they've added a 5th and a 7th in the 2016 draft without having moved any of their own. So, 11 or 12 picks, but, outside of another deal, no extras in even numbered rounds.
