Korpisalo was terrible for 5 games but turns into George Vezina against the Leafs

The Leafs didn't help themselves.  Sloppy neutral zone play gave Ottawa their goals.

Some typical post Christmas puck nonsense but this team continues to be very mediocre.  They win in spite of that mediocrity a lot though.

The 4th line wasn't great tonight

Really be scary if this team had killer instinct and knew how to bury teams. Especially sh**ty ones.

True, but keep in mind they are trying to get by on the 3rd string goalie, who gave up the GWG on a third-string play.

2nd stringer is no better.

Worse, so far this year.  It's kind of hard to imagine them missing the playoffs but the goaltending is very shaky.

What a disappointing game.  They really blew it in the second.
Still had enough chances to win...not their night. On to CBJ

Would be advisable for them to start winning against the bottom feeders.  And for Samsonov to start playing like an NHLer again.
As long as they play good against the good teams and they'll make the playoffs, dont really care. Crappy teams aren't making the playoffs lol..
Anyway Ottawa had the better goalie and the luck tonight. That's it...next

Thing is they should be banking points against these teams especially at home. Eventually the good teams are going to beat them more often. Goaltending aside I still think this team has regressed. The core really irk me with their soft defensive play. SH goal and soft battles for the puck with the extra attacker is something they need to be better at. Nylander especially annoying watching that guy at times shy away from sh*t. Empty netter is one reason you don't pay this guy what he wants. 2 ends to the ice play hard at both ends.

I literally thought we're going to lose because we play down to our opponents and Korpisalo is in net.

It's too bad they couldn't pull one out last night because they've got back to back Fri and Sat before the new year.

Hardly. He was extremely lucky. The number of bounces that went in his favour was nuts. Pucks rolling across open goalmouths somehow not hitting anything, players not making good contact on shots, etc. All he did was not allow the weak stuff.

Nobody ever would have guessed

Whatever my opinion. The problem lies with this coach and core plain and simple.  I'll just chalk it up the loss to a few days off without playing says Keefe. You're up 2-0 I don't think he's thinking that. Come out for the second period and disappear and the SH goal was the dagger and I said it. No accountability plain and simple and until they get a coach in here who doesn't cave in to this core nothing will change. Team thinks it can coast to wins because they are so talented when they turn it in but still haven't figured how to keep the pedal to the metal. We can argue at their record and say we are near the top of our division but all smoke and mirrors. The Habs are 5 points behind us for a team that is completely rebuilding and quite frankly have nowhere near the talent the Leafs do. That's what coaching, compete and a no quit attitude can do for you.

I agree that a new coach (Boucher) would sure add some interest to a lackluster season to date.

So I stuck to my guns and did not watch the game. Sounds like I made the right choice...

I think the weekend games will be very telling. Not sure what to expect but will be tuning in to see how they respond.

I see Sammy is supposedly getting the nod tomorrow so should be interesting.
