Nice win for the Leafs tonight. I thought Samsonov did a great job.

I thought Samsonov did well too.

That is unquestionably an improved Sens team.

Leafs don't seem to be quite clicking yet. To be expected this early in the season.

Good win.

Yes, you hate to respect the sens but they aren't a doormat any more.  Giroux will help the younger guys develop.  Forsberg looks good.

Holl was 3rd in Leafs dman ice time tonight. 2nd against the Caps and 3rd against the Habs.
Not a bunch of PKs tonight to explain it.
He's playing well as he did in preseason.
His coach is seeing it too. Credit to the coach for rewarding a guy playing well.

fyi Zaitzev played #6 role 12 mins.

100% in agreement here!

Shot attempts were 25-8 Leafs when the Bunting-Matthews-Marner line was on the ice.

Don't even think Matthews is playing anywhere near his best hockey yet either but still a pretty dominating result.

4th best save% in the NHL since last January? I think that's what they said - something like that. (only half caught it)
That surprised me - particularly when he was playing behind a weak team last year.

They got Chabot, a respectable looking young top 6 who will get better and that 4th line did pretty well against Matthews line.

Leafs beat a half decent team tonight.

Of the three teams Leafs have faced, Sens look like the best of those three right now. (only based on three games so ...)

Yeah, the Sens aren't the same bottom feeders as before.

My main concern so far this season is the D looks a little old and slow and ive yet to see the team as a whole really impose their will on an opponent. That's the consistent jump I want to see before believing they're anything more than they have shown over the past half decade.

The Leafs looked great when they had the puck. Horrible off the puck. There's a lot of puck watching going on.

I may get roasted for this take, but I still don't get the love for Holl. I actually find he's been worse than previous seasons. He is constantly behind the puck and chasing. He's not some offensive dynamo, so why is he below the other team's hashmarks so often? He also takes extremely bad lines which leads to odd man rushes against his D partner. Not only were there two 2 on 1's against because he got caught up the ice, there was at least one other where Marner hustled back to take away another odd man rush.

^This^ They don't look motivated at all, you'd think after losing in the first round yet again they'd come out looking to prove something, but nope, just more of the same. Could be a long season....lol

It's game 3, motivation picks up as the season goes on, it's the reason that late season games / playoff games look way better than the first week of the season. It's a long haul of a season, no reason to kill yourself before the playoffs

They obviously told him to be more involved in offense for whatever reason, but as bad as Holl has been I'm shocked there's as little criticism of Muzzin. He's been much worse in comparison, especially based on his contract.

I think they asked them all to be more involved in offense. I've seen Giordano, Brodie, Sandin and even Muzzin meandering deeper into the o-zone. (Rielly's done it for years). His coach called Holl's goal "initiative" last night ... yes, when it works out .... But if the coach thought Holl was out of line a lot, taking unjustified risks causing scoring chances and not doing as he has been asked, why would he reward him with the 2nd or 3rd most minutes each game? (2nd was a high pk game)

Early in preseason, I remember seeing one where Holl wandered deeper into the o-zone & got caught up ice but the forward did not do a great job filling in at the point when he was supposed to. I had mixed feelings about Holl's play in that early game. So I have seen some of what you have. But I've seen worse in terms of frequency from Rielly & Brodie who are supposedly our top pairing.

This could all flip. Often guys flying out of preseason hit a wall - can't keep it up.

Yes I agree. I was only pointing out Holl because of the love he's been getting.
