sens vs. Maple Leafs - Jan. 25th, 7:00pm - SN, TSN 1050

F me what useless plays in the neutral zone. Do you guys know your down a goal. Reilly backpedaling, others seem like they don't want the puck. My god.

When they look bad, they look real bad. But: we knew the lineup tonite was going to be ugly, and it was.

What an ineffective last minute, leading to a shot from the point into the crest that the goalie saw all the way. Leafs aren't doing themselves any favours with another loss - even after tonight, they have played 8 more home games than road games. Schedule gets a lot tougher after Minnesota comes to town next week.

It would have been nice to have Matthews playing tonight.
Judging by posts during the game that's what pisses me off about him. Too many nights off. You're one or the highest paid guys in the league should be dominating himself. Some nights he's not even noticeable. BS.

Got a huge issue with Berube on how he handled the bench. First playing 2 stiffs with Robertson on the 3rd line essentially making it a 4th line. They finally generated when he put 88 with 64 and 89....and wtf are we doing here. Quillan played 5:21..Minten 5:43 and on the 4th line.

Come on, how often do you expect a 13 million man to make a meaningful impact in a game? Unless his injury is bothering him again, this was a pretty lackluster showing from the captain.

This was a rough game to watch. Several guys who just aren't ready for the NHL (Quillan, Minten), another who is completely ineffective (Reaves), another who is basically replacement level (Holmberg, probably Lorentz too if we're being honest). It is apparent that Domi is incapable of providing much of anything unless he's with Matthews and Marner. That's a big problem even when the team is healthy.

On the plus side, I thought Kampf looked better than he has all year and McMann was probably the best forward. I find myself wondering if they'd be better off putting Domi up on the top line and moving McMann down to line 2 or even 3 as I think he is more capable of driving a line than Domi.

Tonight was the type of game we see early in the playoffs when the team that wants it more will do whatever it takes to win, including some dirty stuff. When that happens the rough stuff elevates and it gets more dangerous on the ice.

Then the Core4 disappear.

Down two top 6 forward playing suboptimal lineups is an issue

The Leafs are now 17-12-2 with Ryan Reaves in the lineup and 13-6-0 without him.

Reaves isn't the reason we lose games but he provides such an insignificant role that still destabilizes the lineup. His line can't be used defensively. His line is also pretty much guaranteed that it won't score. And when the team is playing at a .580 pt percentage with him and a .684 without him, the team is clearly not playing more confidently with him in the lineup.

Matthews absolutely deserves criticism for this one. He called out the fans after the Columbus game. The fans showed up and the effort was lacklustre from the captain. He wasn't bad but the crowd brought their A game, and he didn't. It's a timing thing not too dissimilar than the Xhejkah scoreboard point.

The Leafs are finding ways to lose to teams that have a decent chance of facing them in the first round and this concerns me.

.

I thought Quillan did a few interesting things out there. Lets hope he can build on a few promising moves.
Surviving that kneeing was pretty impressive. I thought he looked like one of the better prospects in preseason, though last night he really didn't get much of an opportunity.
