Setting-up new TV

Frank, do you have an existing cable package with TSN and Sportsnet?

If yes, then simplify your life and go get a 2nd cable box. Or, get with the 21st century, and get a gateway type TV setup (central cable box with smaller cable boxes at each TV). Use the Roku portion of your TV to watch Netflix.

It's a TCL 6-series, Carlton.

Thank you for your suggestions...I just hate giving Cogeco any more of my money.

You can mostly likely buy used on Kijiji. Just ensure it was from Cogeco to begin with. I've done this with Shaw; you just have to call them and have them activate it to your account.

Just as a heads up, make sure the box isn't a rental or blacklisted.  Yes, people will try to sell their rental boxes on Kijiji and don't ask me how I know this.  Get the serial# of the box and call Cogeco and ask them to check if it can be added to your account.

The other option would be to get a Chromecast and cast from phone/tablet/computer to the TV.

Sounds like the best way to do things is, if you already have TSN and Sportsnet as part of a cable package, either buy an Apple TV or Xbox.

I use an Xbox One S. It does Sportsnet, TSN, Crave, etc. Can also run Kodi if you're into that sort of thing. It also has a 4k bluray player which is a nice added bonus.

Ok so I've been trying to do a bit of reading on this TV and I've seen conflicting things. One review said that it had chromecast built-in, but I couldn't find anything about it on the TV's manual. I'd be a little surprised if it didn't have chromecast built in because I have an older Vizio that does and from what I know these new TCL's are supposed to be in direct competition with them. So if you have the TV set-up already, I would just try to cast something on it.

To do that, make sure the TV and your phone/tablet are connected to the same wifi. Put the TV on it's main screen (wherever you can access it's built in apps/options). Open some sort of app on your phone that streams video. Either TSN or Sportsnet (I'm assuming your cable plan gives you access to these channels, so you can login with your Cogeco credentials on the app to give you access to their streaming services). Or even Netflix or Amazon Prime or Crave. Whatever. Start streaming something on your phone and then look for the "Cast" icon on the upper right hand side of your phone (looks like this. Click that and you should see your TV listed as something you can cast the stream to.

If that works, great. If it doesn't, you have two options. You could either purchase a device that you can connect to your TV that would handle casting/streaming options. Or you could just purchase another cable box for downstairs. To be honest, if I was already paying for cable (which I'm assuming you are) I would want access to it on every TV that I had, so I'd probably just bite the bullet and get another cable box regardless.

I can't speak to what you may have seen but I recently bought a new TV for my bedroom and it was the TCL 4-series but while buying it I researched the difference between it and the 6 series to decide which to get and nothing I ever saw had anything about a built in chromecast on either model.

Weird. I'm honestly surprised that's not a standard feature in this day and age.

I think it would have pretty limited utility for most people. All of these smart TVs can, more or less, run the more popular streaming apps and when you throw in that a pretty healthy % of people will have a secondary thing like a game console or Cable box then a Chromecast would really only be of use in the really particular situations like this one.

I have a Chromecast plugged into my projector so I can watch 80" hockey via casting. It's literally the best ?30 I've ever spent
