Shane Doan

Not against it, but I think he goes back to Phoenix unless someone grossly overpays.

Probably, but, from the sounds of things, the instability with the ownership situation there is making him question re-upping with them. I think LA is probably ahead of the pack, due to their proximity to Phoenix, but, there's also some talk his wife wants to move back to BC and such. The situation there is very much in flux.

Doan on the Leafs would be great. Would make up for any lost depth on the wing if JVR's transition to centre goes smoothly. But yeah, I won't be holding my breath.

If he goes anywhere other than Phoenix, it's probably Vancouver.

According to Kevin McGran, the Leafs are "in on Doan."

There is some suggestion that the Leafs are willing to do that.

If he is, I think Burke is badly looking for another leader on this team.  Doan would bring that for sure, even if he isn't going to bring a whole stack of offensive production.

edit: But yes, we should remember this is coming from Kevin "I like to bait Leafs fans by saying things that get them going" McGran and of course Loud Howard jumped in 10 seconds after Kevin posted his little tidbit last night.

With rumors being that as many as 12 teams are interested in adding Doan, Leafs won't get him.

John Gambadoro ‏@Gambo620

NHL source just confirmed to me that an Eastern Conference team has offered Coyotes Captain Shane Doan a 4-year deal worth more than 30 mill

Gambardo is a radio talk show host from Phoenix. I'm not entirely sure how credible he is, but the folks at Puck Daddy thought enough of it to share. That's a $7.5mil cap hit for crying out loud.

I hope he signs it.  That will mess up set teams payroll for 4 years.

I have strong doubts about the validity of this rumour, because it's just too absurd. That being said, I could see a team like the Jets doing something stupid like that.

That's the team I thought of first too.

edit: Although unless they actually can't re-sign Kane their forward group is pretty crowded now.

Although I would love the leafs to get Kane I think that a Kane for Ryan trade makes a lot of sense for both teams but I have avoided typing that for weeks hoping that I don't curse it.  :(

That still doesn't solve the Doan factor with the Jets.

apparently philly made some pretty big offers to suter and parise.  i also wouldnt put it past Sather. It wouldnt be his first time.

Sather hasn't overpaid for a player yet this offseason...so...yeah, that's always a possibility.

I know Shane Doan isn't going to be a Leaf next year, but man, it's fun to think sometimes of the days when something like that was an actual possibilitiy.

Doan = instant credibility.

I can't quite recall the source, but it was from a sports broadcast on a TV station (CHCH, maybe?).  Anyway, the report was that Buffalo was rumoured to have offered Doan 4yrs / $30M.

If this is even remotely true, well, I'm not even sure what to say.
