Stanley Cup Final Chicago (1) vs Boston (5)

Honestly, I didn't take much joy in watching Boston collapse in the last minute and a half, but karma was the first thing that came to mind when it happened.  The Hockey gods are a fickle bunch.

Now, Muriel plays piano
Every Friday at the Hollywood
And they brought me down to see her
And they asked me if I would
Do a little number
And I sang with all my might
She said, "Tell me are you a Hawks fan, child?"
And I said, "Ma'am, I am tonight!"

- Marc Cohn - Walking in Memphis
(lyrics approximate)

Congratulations Hawks! Another cup after finally ending their drought in 2010 is great.

That, and the way they beat the Bruins, in the dying minutes, is delightful.  :D

I normally wouldn't take joy in seeing a team choke like that, but given the circumstances and how they did basically the same thing to the Leafs in round 1..I have no empathy for them.

Neither do I. For me, it's a little bit more of how the Hawks won than how the Bruins lost. But yea, I also have to admit that the fact it was the Bruins was poetic.  ;D

Apparently there's an article out there on how Leafs fans are taking joy in the Bruins defeat. Probably 5% made out to be 80%. And since there are a number of fans that exist solely to run their mouths when they see the Leafs fail (and where I live there are more than a few), so be it.  8) Go Hawks! Congratulations on the Conn Smyth Patrick Kane.

And now that the playoffs are over, GO LEAFS!

I'm a happy camper!  :)

Cool photos.

Fun Fact (that you probably already knew): Jonathan Toews & Wayne Gretzky were the only players to captain their teams to 2 Stanley Cups by age 25.  8)

I really don't get this.  Are people that affected by the first round loss that they have to take joy in Boston's loss?

I mean, did it suck we lost?  Yes.  Did it suck we lost the way we did? Yes.  Is Boston to blame for it?  No - the Leafs are to blame.  Why are people taking it out on Boston?

edit: Sorry, LHF, didn't mean to pick on you specifically...

I'm petty like that.

I agree with this.

It's absolutely fine to hope Boston lost and are glad they did so.  And if people believe Boston losing in the Cup final helps lessen the sting of the Leafs' loss, by all means.

But I don't get people who think Boston losing in the final as opposed to simply losing in the first round as the Leafs did is some sort of moral victory.  There's really no reason for us to be gloating that Boston couldn't get it done.  Considering the city hasn't see a final game in 46 years, I'm sure we'd all wouldn't mind being able to say the team was two games away from winning the Cup.

After having it rubbed in our faces by some Bruins fans, I found it nice to see something similar happen to their team.

:-|  First off, I actually like the Bruins, and after Toronto, Winnipeg and Chicago (in that order) Boston would be my next favourite team.

TBH, my reason for posting that picture was twofold: 1. anytime I can post a picture of My Jonathan, I'm a happy camper and 2. that picture was actually stolen/acquired from the Chicago Sun. I thought it was neat that they printed it in THEIR paper, after someone pointed them to the Toronto Sun, from where it originated. My posting this had less to do with sticking it to Boston than it did just enjoying Toews Overload for the next couple days.

my previous post is more like stick it to Boston (but really, just an excuse to post a cute bear picture. After all, that is my job around here :)  )

I suspected you posted the pic for the sake of posting it, which is why I edited my post to say I didn't mean to pick on you.

Sorry LHF.

Who's gloating?  It's surprising to you that Leafs fans are happy that Boston lost in heartbreaking fashion?  Reverse the situations and the fanbase reactions would be exactly the same.

Looks like the city of Boston found a way to deal with the choke job.

After all that the city of Boston has been through ( the terrorist bombings fiasco), it probably would have been nice for the Bruins to have eventually won qnd hoisted the Cup.  One should not equate winning a championship with soothing hurt (also in the words of one of the Boston players), but at least, the fact remains that the Bruins sport a classy organization nonetheless.  Nothing takes anything away from that.

Sorry Boston fans, but your team got back a dosage of it's own bitter medicine that it meted out to our Leafs, so to speak.  The LeafsNation does not forget.  We know what that feels like.  Now, so do you.

I don't see why we can't just have some schadenfreude and take joy in Boston's defeat without having that whole paragraph of supposed meaning stuffed into our mouths.  We're enjoying the taste of their tears that's all.

I mean who is even close to saying enjoying Boston's defeat is better than being two games away from the Cup, that's absurd.
