Man, I don't think I could come up with a rooting interest for this one with a gun to my head. Anton Stralman maybe?

Maybe in jealous but I don't know how one cannot like Chicago. It's hard not to have respect for those guys.

I respect them like crazy. I just won't get much out of them winning a third cup.

I just have this thing about these new fangled teams winning cups... I know Tampa has been around since 91, and has a cup, and deserves respect... but come on.. It's tampa.

Well, exactly. That's sort of my thing too. It's not "who do I want to see win it more" it's "who do I want to see win it less". Honestly, I'm probably leaning towards wanting to see Chicago win it less. I like it when guys win the cup who haven't won it before.

Although, that said, I'd wager that this year my three year streak of not watching most of the Stanley Cup finals will go for a fourth.

I think that Tampa's been a pretty popular team to root for in these playoffs, but Chicago still has the big edge in bandwagon-fans. So I'd prefer the Lightning to win. I also have more of their guys in my pool.

I'm leaning that way too. Is it petty of me to still be bitter over losing Stralman for nothing? So obvious he was going to be good.

Though I'm also a big fan of Marian Hossa. This is a tough choice.

Goaltending wins championships! Ya, not so much. I was automatically going to root for whoever played Tampa because Ben Bishop just does not seem like a goalie deserving of the cup. Then I realized he'd be playing Corey Crawford and thought, you know who deserves a cup? Ben Bishop.

I'm actually going to be in Tampa Bay for games 6 and 7 if it goes that far, so...I'm hoping it goes that far.  Would love to experience a Stanley Cup final in person!

Tampa will be the first team in NHL history to face 4 Original Six teams in one playoff year, so . . . yay?

That's actually pretty incredible.

Here are the original 6 teams by division

Atlantic:

Toronto
Montreal
Boston
Detroit

Metro:
NYR

Central:
Chicago

Pacific:
None

Only an Atlantic Division team OR a Metro. Division team that gets a wild card spot could actually accomplish the feat:

Atlantic team plays:
1st Rd:  (BOS, DET, MTL, or TOR)
2nd Rd: (BOS, DET, MTL, or TOR)
3rd Rd:  NYR
4th Rd:  CHI

Metro team wins wildcard that plays Atlantic Div winner:
1st Rd:  (BOS, DET, MTL, or TOR)
2nd Rd:  NYR
3rd Rd:  (BOS, DET, MTL, or TOR)
4th Rd:  CHI

That goes to show you how difficult it would be to repeat this.  I have to say though, when Toronto wins the cup the IDEAL playoffs for me would be:

1st Rd:  Boston
2nd Rd:  Montreal
3rd Rd:  NYR
4th Rd:  Chicago

Why not have all Original 6 series on the way to a cup :P

Eh. Beating Boston or NYR doesn't do a ton for me. I'd much rather beat Philly on the way.

You know, while we're dreaming.

For me in recent times, the playoffs are about who I don't want to see win.

Once the Canucks are out, however slim their actual chance of winning is, I'm breathing easier. Then, it's the Habs. I find I don't have quite the hate for them that I once did, probably because the Leafs/Habs rivalry is dormant right now. But I don't want them winning another Cup.

After that, I just like watching good games and I don't really care who wins. I like the Blackhawks. You can't ever count them out. The Ducks looked very good but it ended up with Chicago schooling them on how to win in the playoffs. Chicago just had that much more depth and their core is still excellent. I hope the Leafs develop a team like that in the coming years.

Chicago has to give Philly two 2nd round picks for the privilege of playing Timonen 5 minutes a night.

In these Stanley Cup playoffs, we've often heard words such as resilient, experience, excellent depth, steady defence, punishing offence, solid netminding, smart strategizing, etcetera.

These are words used to describe the journey of the Chicago Blackhawks and the Tampa Bay Lightning, respectively, in their quest at securing themselves a spot in the Stanley Cup Final and the means that got them this far in the first place.
We could very well be describing them both equally.

The Lightning's incredible offence (especially that 'electrifying' line of Tyler Johnson-Palat-Kutcherov) has been outstanding in their achievements. When the offence gets going, Tampa Bay becomes a difficult team to stop.
The Lightning's defence has certainly come of age, when performing well, perfecting the art of the shutdown.  Victor Hedman, Jason Garrison et al., lead the Lightning in this department.  Add to the mix a solid (if he continues to be consistent) Ben Bishop in goal, a coach in Jon Cooper who's team has somehow at times 'mesmerized' the opposition, and you've got a Cup finalist to be reckoned with.

The Blackhawks incredible offence (they may not be as flashy as the Lightning, but they're just as dangerous) with the likes of explosive shooter Patrick Kane, reliable (as always) leader Jonathan Toews, crafty Marian Hossa, etc., can make life quite miserable for opposing goaltenders.  Never count the 'Hawks out.
Their superb defence has never failed to come up in big ways, and not just in defensive fashion but it can contribute quite nicely on the offensive front.  Logging an abundant of ice-time, workhorse Duncan Keith, along with his counterpart Brent Seabrook may very well be the best in the business.  Chicago is a team that can lie low and spring to action when one least expects them to, as in taking advantage of the opposition's gap or lapse in play.  That's where the 'Hawks depth players such as Andrew Shaw, Brandon Saad, et al., come in.  Add to the mix a solid (provided he doesn't default back to his inconsistencies) Corey Crawford in goal, a coach in Joel Quenneville who's team as at times 'puzzled' the opposition, and you have a Cup finalist  to be reckoned with.

So, now, which team has the advantage?  Tampa Bay, with it's puck possession/puck controlling, offensive/defensive strategizing, or, Chicago, with it's puck possession/puck controlling offensive/defensive strategizing?

So, who will win?  Will it be resiliency & experience (Chicago) over youth & speed (Tampa Bay)?

Let's get ready to watch!
