Stanley Cup Final: Vegas Golden Knights vs. Florida Panthers

As much as I initially thought that 2nd goal was in, I have no idea how the league can keep a straight face and call that a goal after watching that replay with the whistle being blown before it crosses the line. Ridiculous.

Continuation play. Puck was in motion before the whistle went. That?s the way it should be. It?s how it always should have been.

I think it's fair to say the Panthers have imploded. I've learned to never count them out, but this one is over. 5-1 now.

Oh my god. Does this mean that the Panthers success wasn't about some sort of supernatural level of toughness and competitive spirit but was actually just a fairly ordinary team who got a run of unsustainably hot goaltending? And that without that level of play in net they'd look just as vulnerable as everyone else? Holy smokes. What a suprise. If only some people had said that it wasn't because of outstanding character and internal fortitude but simply the way the randomness of the playoffs can shake out. I'm really torn up about this. The incredibly minor level of hockey knowledge I have, which reduces every single thing to whether or not players are tough enough, has been completely shattered.

So sad to see such an amazing run come to such an embarrassing end but it's painfully obvious that without Bobrovsky  the Florida Panthers are an average team at best and had no business being in the finals.

The NHL should make the regular season for the Stanley Cup and the playoffs a totally separate tournament.

Ok, but it begs the question then why was the whistle being blown if the puck is in motion? It's odd to see.

I think you could more fairly call it an amazing run if it didn't basically happen every other year now. Montreal in the covid year, Dallas in 2020, the Preds in 2017.

I mean, at some point low seeds going deep in the playoffs just becomes a thing that happens.

Meh, it's a Cinderella run and shit happens. Although Vegas is riding a PDO Bender to end all Benders.

Ref lost sight of the puck, thought it was covered. It obviously wasn?t, but he was already blowing the whistle when he realized. It?s human error.

And, honestly, the continuation play is one of the few things the league has gotten right recently. The clock doesn?t stop until the whistle goes. If a shot gets released before the clock stops, why shouldn?t it count? That?s something that?s always bothered me about the intent to blow the whistle BS that was the standard for so long.

Well, there we go. Another disappointing hockey season. A cup won by a team I'm almost entirely indifferent to.

But next year, hoo baby, next year will be the one.

I get a kick of the silly thing that Maple Leaf Gardens and that HUGE Maple Leaf is on the ice every time the cup is presented.

Also, ya'll get any more of them expansion franchises?
