Well yeah, but the difference is the state will protect her in Canada. We can all only hope that we will be protected from violent maniacs, no?

You're free to do what ever you want in private. Publicly funded institutions have to represent the public, of which, a large portion does not celebrate Christmas. So, basically, they were left with 2 choices - celebrate all the religious holidays represented by their constituents/student body/whatever or celebrate none of them. Obviously, they went with the cheaper and simpler option.

Come on busta?  Celebrate every single "religious" holiday?

How about Canadian traditions?  Why are we lumping Canadian traditions in with "every other religious holiday"?

I can't imagine we want to lose our cultural identity...it's what made us one of the coolest places on earth.

I don't think it is really an issue, christmas is a corporate holliday more than a religous holliday now and most people worship santa over jesus.  Most people are fine with happy hollidays and it really doesn't opress anyone.  Regardless of if you celebrate them or not fact is you still get time off for all the christian hollidays and not any time off for all the non christian hollidays.

Also what on earth are you talking about when you say "Canadian traditions" not being celibrated in the public school system?  Do you even get what the argument is about?

If you're going to force the celebration on one religion's holidays on people, in the fine Canadian traditions of quality, fair treatment and multiculturalism, you have to recognize them all with the same respect and give them equal reverence and time. If my theoretical kids have to celebrate Christmas in school, you bet I want them to celebrate Hannukah in school as well, just like I'd expect Muslim parents to want their kids to celebrate Ramadan, African parents with Kwanzaa, etc. Celebrate 'em all or don't celebrate any. That's the only way public institutions can do it.
