Tank Nation: Matthews Edition

I would take one of the Finnish Wingers, I wouldnt be disappointed to have either of them instead of Matthews. Of course I would take Matthews first but not bad consolation prizes.

alright so the #1 pick it is...I was just trying to think of a package that would be able to get it done.

I mean, what if the oil win, do they take matthews with mcdavid and draisaitl(sp) already there?  or do they take one of the finnish wingers.

Yeah I really feel this is a case where a trade involving a "package" of players coming back just doesn't work. You're not trading 4 quarters for a dollar here (or even 5 quarters, dollar's are shinier). No way.

As for Edmonton, they're obviously a pretty unique situation. If they pick 1st there's no way they pass on Matthews. If they want one of the Finns then they have to take advantage of the situation and make a trade with the team picking 2nd. But I still think they'd be like 95% likely to draft Matthews and deal with the problem of having too many good centres some other way.

They definitely take Matthews, trade RNH and move either Draisaitl or McDavid (probably Draisaitl) to the wing.

I think they trade the #1 pick to LA for Drew Doughty. Instant credibility... at least until Doughty hurls himself off a building.

If we can all stop entertaining scenarios where Edmonton wins the first overall pick again that would be great thanks.

as far as edm goes , it would not shock me one little bit if they won the lottery again, I just don't know how there not a top team with all the top picks they have had in the last few years.

This article outlines it nicely: http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/dear-maple-leafs-fans-an-oilers-guide-to-a-painful-rebuild/

I just ran that simulator 10 times and not once did the leafs have a top 3 pick.

Me: just now. One shot. I stopped immediately after this.

Edit: BTW, the simulator uses Points% to calculate their standings, so the Leafs are still 3rd last according to this applet due to the games we have on hand.

Yup. Few more games with this type of line-up though should fix that.

Something is wrong with that simulator.  I ran it for the 3 spots and it had the Leafs picking 6th which is impossible if they're dead last in the standings.

Point percentage is the 1st tiebreaker but point totals would be the appropriate way for that to work. Their simulator is likely using point% to determine the standings alone.

Based on PT% the standings are: Edmonton, Buffalo, Toronto, Columbus

yes I am back. although, it will only serve to piss me off, when Edm scores the 1st overall again, and we end up picking fourth. I just want that 1st pick sooo bad. It's been since 1985 that we had it (Wendel of course).

There have been whispers around here questioning your compete level. Nice to have you back at 110%!  :P
