Why don't we send them Polak and Bernier/or Riemer for their first overall. Throw in PAP and any of our other rentals in the deal.

For the very specific reason that there's no way they make that trade.

Yup. Would put Edmonton over the contract limit. They'll have to send Hall back our way too to get under.

I haven't watched any games, but seriously can't believe they're that bad.

Very little structure to their game, basically no defensive awareness, not much talent outside in their bottom 6, and poor goaltending. We get distracted by their four 1st overall picks, but, outside of that, they've added very little talent - and one of those picks hasn't exactly added much to the roster. The very top of their lineup is great. The rest? Awful.

Still, McLellan is, or was  thought to be a very good coach. You'd think he'd do something structure wise.

This is the part that confuses me.

You'd think. Clearly, they're all uncoachable. ;D

Honestly, with these guys, there's just a huge learning curve. Their top players are so used to cheating on offence, and the rest of the roster doesn't have much talent. They panic easily, and lose everything.

Clearly the Leafs management is better than Edmonton at finding secondary pieces and properly structuring a team. Unfortunately Edmonton is much better than us at tanking and securing the first overall pick.

Now that it is a lottery, we all have about an equal chance of the first (or not).  We may have to send Sheldon Keefe out there to straighten them out.

Honestly, Edmonton has to be the worst run franchise since Milbury's New York Islanders. They've been picking top 5 for what, 10 years now? With a bunch of 1st overall picks. A friggen monkey could do better. A literal monkey. Sitting in the president/gm chair. Every year. A literal capuchin monkey.

This year it'll be like 'weee another highly skilled forward. Let's get him in there with McDavid and Hall and Eberle and Nugent-Hopkins and Yakupov and bing and bang and bingbang...' And then just furiously masturbate all year. Does Kevin Lowe have pictures of Daryl Katz playing cards with Satan?

It's called moving some of your assets to BUILD THE REST OF YOUR TEAM.
Honestly. You've got the best young franchise player in the league and you're sharing the basement with a team that has to ice an AHL club every night for the love of peter forsberg.

NHL Draft 2016: 'And congratulations Edmonton Oilers!. Auston Matthews will look great next to Connor McDavid. And also congratulations on being the laughing-stock of the league. The NHL is once again going to modify it's draft structure due to your colossally inept managment. Great job.'

For what it's worth, I think the NHL's changes to its draft structure have nothing to do with Edmonton. It more had to do with Buffalo and their naked tanking a season.

Which isn't a defense of the NHL, they haven't done anything about Edmonton and the flaws it reveals in the system and they should. Failure shouldn't be rewarded.

maybe the NHL should move Edms table closer to the stage, so they don't have to walk as far to get there first overall every year.

I am really starting to fear that  Sheldon will move out west and maybe as soon as he wins the Memorial Cup.  I would like to see him with the Marlies for at least 3 before he wins the cup with Edmonton.

The Oilers aren't winning more than 2-3 games the rest of the season are they?

Are the Leafs going to win 3-4 games?  Then yes.
They had 62 points last season, on pace for 68 this year, so I guess McDavid helped them after all.

THanks Disco, big laughes in your post. I was almost crying. I even pictured the monkey wearing the Fez ;D

Thanks man, checking in last night I saw Edmonton in 30th because of our games in hand and I'm like 'are you friggen serious? 30th? Again? For the love of Kevin Lowe's back and neck hair.' I mean I want Matthews just as much as the next guy, but sweet mother of baby jesus anyone but Edmonton.

I was thinking the same thing, just automatically funnel the 1st overall pick directly into their farm system. Dispense with the pleasantries.

Anyways, Connor: see you when you hit 26.
