Tavares out with a broken finger

Why?  Nylander was a waste as a 3C.  Not so with Marner.

I just don't really want to see Matthews and Nylander split up. But looking at both likely options I guess there are pros and cons to both. If they go with Nylander to C I'd actually like to try Matthews and Marner together:

Mikheyev-Matthews-Marner
Johnsson-Nylander-Kapanen
Petan-Kerfoot-Moore
Timashov-Shore/Spezza-Gauthier

I like that 2nd line.  ;D

Maybe this will light a fire under some players. The top 2 lines have seemed to be off, maybe this adds some urgency to Marner, Matthews especially. Bottom 2 lines have been pretty solid.

Will be interesting to see how the lines shake out. I am intrigued by the idea of Matthews and Marner together but am not sure that's the best approach.

I think the Matthews line has been good this year. The JT line was really the only one that struggled. I can see Babs putting Spezza or Kerfoot between Marner and Mikheyev. I don't think he'll break up the Matthews line.

Tavares gets injured and the Leafs are about to play Boston.  What luck.  Thank goodness this isn?t the playoffs.

Won?t be surprised if JT is out longer than the two weeks.  More like a month, maybe more.  It?ll depend on his gripping the stick and how it?ll be feeling.

JT is a robot, it'll be 2 weeks

I agree the JT line looked the worst, but to me - both lines seem to have been playing on the periphery a lot, settling for poor shots or point shots. Matthews has looked better I think
because a few of those shots found the net but otherwise - his play seems somewhat uninspired to me. Maybe he has been focusing more on positioning and
defense or things haven't quite meshed yet with the new defense. We'll see.

Marner makes any center better. I remember when Naz had him for a while they were great.
JT a loss of course, but they've got the depth to stay competitive. Silver lining, knock on wood,
on a team with two #1 lines, a loss of their goalie or top defenceman would hurt even more.

It puts Marner in the position as the sole superstar on the line, which is good I think. Maybe it'll motivate him to step-up.

I'd say highest on the list of players that, being injured, would most affect ability to win on a
night-to-night basis would be Andersen, followed by their best defense-men (Rielly, Muzzin, Barrie),
followed by their top guys up front (Matthews, Marner, Tavares, Nylander). I remember Losing Gardiner
and Dermott during that stretch last year was a major blow.

How bad could the injury even be?  He scored a goal after breaking his finger.

Well, if JT is a robot,😁, two weeks is just fine.  That also explains why he scored the goal after breaking finger.  🤓
