The 2013-2014 Toronto Raptors thread: A 'Drake' New World

Derrick Rose out for season (again).

As a big basketball fan, this really sucks.

But as a big Pacers fan, this ensures another Heat-Pacers conference finals.

The Raps blew a 27 point second half lead...to Golden State!  Wow.

They went from 4th place in the conference to 8th spot in the draft with that loss too.

I cant even watch them anymore, and to blow a 27 point spot? Well.... its gonna be a while before I do...... Welcome to Toronto, where winning pro sports dreams go to die.

Rudy Gay is headed to the Kings, league sources tell Yahoo Sports. He has been pulled out of the Raptors lineup for tonight.

Sacramento will send John Salmons, Vasquez, Patterson and Hayes to the Raptors, sources tell Yahoo Sports.

Along with Rudy Gay, Quincy Acy and Aaron Gray will be traded to the Kings too, league sources tell Yahoo Sports.

If anyone's interest Greivis Vasquez is a 6'6 point guard who actually led the NBA in assists and assist rate last year(he was 3rd in APG).

Patrick Patterson is an undersized power forward who was taken a pick after Ed Davis in the 2010 draft but has struggled to find his niche off the bench.

So considering that the Raptors traded Jose Calderon and Ed Davis for Rudy Gay and basically got versions of them back...it's a wash but with Salmons and Hayes as expensive but tradeable throw-ins.

So does this truly mean the great tank is on, or did they do this to free themselves of Gay's massive player option for next year?

Grange thinks they're no worse on the court after this deal. Plus they freed up massive money. So, pretty good deal I guess. Of course though, the tank could still come with future moves.

I would argue that they are actually a better team because of this.

Rudy Gay was incredibly inefficient.  The Raptors will lose out on some of his rounding ability, but it spreads the offense out more.  They went from having a pretty bad bench to actually having depth.

Vasquez isn't going to set the world on fire, but he's a passing point guard.  It also frees up the option to trade Lowry at the deadline.  Not that Vasquez is a replacement for Lowry, but more so that he is likely going to walk elsewhere.

I think this is a pretty solid move by the Raps.  Gay is just terrible.

I think it was Simmons who said that last night Fields and Novak went 1 for 15 from the field in Rudy Gay's honor.

Of course, the monumental failure Brian Colangelo praises this move for the Kings:

"I put a high premium on talent and character, and Rudy Gay has an abundance of both. Obviously, Pete (D?Alessandro) has a mandate to increase the talent level of his team as opposed to depleting it. This move is a pretty good indication of that."

Something pretty funny going around today in light of the news that Masai Ujiri is talking about trading Kyle Lowry to the Knicks for 2 of Iman Shumpert, Tim Hardaway Jr. and their 2018 1st round pick

Good Day Mr. DOLAN,
My name is Mr Masai Ujiri, a staff in the General Managing of a well-known team, here in Toronto, Canada. One of your players, IMAN SHUMPERT, with holding balance of 1,000,000 (One Million Dollars American) has been dormant and last operated three years ago. From my investigations and confirmation, the dignity of the coach of said player, a foreigner by name MIKE WOODSON, died on the 4th of January 2002 in a plane crash in New York.
Since then, nobody has done anything as regards the claiming of this player, as he has no family member that has any knowledge as to the existence of either the playing time or the confidence in the jump shot; and also Information from the National Basketball also states that he was single on entry into the league.
I have decided to find a reliable foreign partner to deal with. I therefore propose to do business with you, standing in as the owner of this players from the deceased and the player KYLE LOWRY released to you after necessary processes have been followed.
This transaction is totally free of risk and troubles as the fund is legitimate and does not originate from drug, pasta, money laundry, terrorism or any other illegal act.
On your interest, let me hear from you URGENTLY.
Best Regards, Mr Masai Ujiri Team President and General Manager [Phone Number Removed]

For those who need a little context, the perception is that Ujiri has previously fleeced the Knicks on the Carmelo Anthony and Andrea Bargnani deals.

Pretty solid wire to wire win tonight even if they kept letting the Sixers back in it. Ross led the way with 24, Valanciunas and Johnson played well down low and Vasquez, I thought, looked very good in his Raptors debut.

The Raptors are so much better of a team since the trade.  They beat the Thunder while on the road.  They were previously 13-0 at home.  5-2 since the trade including three wins against the Western Conference.
