The Ashes

No one wants to talk about the 2015 World Cup of Cricket that is going on right now?

Knockout stages begin next week!

I started, so might as well continue.

As hf1 noted, England's loss to Bangladesh was crucial, and led to them being eliminated from being eligible for quarterfinal play.

Quarter finals are set:

1.  Sri Lanka vs. South Africa
2.  India vs. Bangladesh
3.  New Zealand vs West Indies
4.  Australia vs Pakistan

Games are being played in New Zealand and australia, and there is a shot they both meet in the finals....

Im from New Zealand.  Watched the game last night.  That is what sports is all about.  The opposite emotion of the game 7 loss.  Cant wait for the final.

Alright...the two home teams will meet in the finals, New Zealand vs. Australia in the finals.

I was over in Australia for the last 3 weeks at this. I caught 3 games - Ireland v Pakistan in the group stage in Adelaide (sadly Ireland let me down and didn't play as well as I know we can).

Then India v Bangladesh in the QF (should have been England but they're awful) in Melbourne

and finally

Australia v India in Sydney in the Semi final.

None of the games was particularly a great game, but there were a lot of really good individual displays from single players. A 100 for Ireland's captain, 100 for India's Suresh Raina, 100 for Steve Smith of Australia, some really fast bowling from Australia's Mitchell Stark.

The atmosphere at the games was incredible too, especially the game in Sydney where the Indian fans probably outnumbered the home fans.

Shame the final was a bit of a let down.

The grounds were awesome too, here's a few photos:

Arn - Unbelievable that you were there.  I just wish that Canada can find 11 folks that can play well enough to one day be a contender in this.

And for those waiting for the final result:

Australia defeated New Zealand in the finals.  It wasn't all that close, as Australia showed their dominance.  Australia beat both India and New Zealand on their way to the championship...both teams were undefeated at that particular time.

Congratulations Australia!

Will Cricket ever be an Olympic sport?

Some clues here: (Article dates to 2013).

It was a fantastic experience in a fantastic country. That's a nation that loves supporting its sports teams.

Canada actually had been in the previous three World Cup events and 4 in total (1979, 2003, 2007, 2011) and often finished in the upper ends of the world cup qualifying tournaments and other international events just below the top level but they seem to have fallen away lately.

The team always seemed to be made up of Indian, Sri Lankan, West Indies ex-pats. One guy, John Davidson, an Australian national who was born in British Columbia actually held the record for the fastest 100 in World Cup history for a while before Irishman Kevin O'Brien took the record in 2011

Totally forgot about this thread but we won the Ashes series this year too. Although just lost a disappointing series to Pakistan in the middle east.

Maybe there should be a general cricket thread to replace this...

Sure, why not?  We have a thread for just about anything on these boards, so go ahead, make yourself comfortable.  :)
