The "Mr. T" Man of the Match v.2021: The Mad Dash for Glory | PLAYOFF TIME

Nylander
Tavares

hard to left Matthews off with his 14 shot attempts, but those 2 + Rielly were precise.

Not impressed with Bogosian, just hoping that it is only rust from the time off ice.

I didn't vote for him either so I'm not knocking anyone's votes, but NOBODY voting for Matthews after his performance where he looked like an absolute beast all night long just feels wrong haha. I want to change my vote just so he gets a Times Voted nod. If that's against the rules I'll just blame herman for flipping his vote while he still could.

The rules are just whatever I can be bribed to create.  That said, for you, I'll be happy to make the change and put it on your tab.  ;) 8) 8) :-X

I think it's just one of those situations where there's a big gap between "Who had the best individual game" and "Who contributed most to the win".

I thought my explanation covered it nicely. Matthews looked spritely out there and they collectively dominated a pretty defensively strong top line; nothing went in though and we're in the phase of the team expectations and weird COVID-induced situation of results first.

Tavares tends to have subtle performances where you almost forget he exists but at the end of the night he's top billing in scoring. Even when he's not on the scoring play, he's parking a butt on the goalie or lifting a stick for a seam pass, or dragging two players out to open up a shooting lane. Nylander gives Tavares a winger he can use both of his shooting and playmaking skills with that covers his main weakness (raw speed) and stack on his other strengths (turning board pucks into dangerous ice opportunities).

They took full advantage of the softer competition Matthews and Kerfoot (sort of) afforded them, and that's really how this lineup should be deployed in general. Every night, the opposition is going to get steamrolled by one of the big lines whether they like it or not. Against all the Canadian teams and their depth, some nights it'll be two or more lines popping off.

Mention to Kerfoot, Holl, Mikheyev

Demerits to Brodie, Rielly, Matthews, Simmonds, Thornton (all at most -3)
