The Official TFC/Soccer thread

Talk of the Argos sharing BMO has resurfaced. This would require major renovations or a waiver from the CFL for the size.

Another piece of news, and this one is a bit of a bombshell. President and GM Kevin Payne has apparently been sacked. To me this is a snap move as he only had 1 transfer window to work with, that being the summer one that just closed. Even Mo Johnston as inept as he was had more than one full season to work with. The constant revolving door in the front office leads to constant turnover on the roster. You can't have success when you're turning over 70%+ of the roster every 15-18 months.

Might have done same...

MLSE boss Tim Leiweke reported over the weekend that even if the Argos do come into BMO, artificial turf will NOT be installed. They are also exploring options to add a roof over the stands.

As well, TFC performed well on the field yesterday as they defeated DC United 4-1. DC went with mostly a 2nd string team (no Dwayne DeRosario) as they will face Real Salt Lake on Tuesday in the US Open Cup final. Can't remember the last time TFC scored 4 goals in a match.

That was refreshing.

As a huge soccer fan its disheartening what a disaster TFC continues to be.

Hopefully with Lieweke as chief of MLSE, there brings a change for positive results and a recipe for a winning formula.

I'm still a bit skeptical with Lieweke but I'd love to be wrong.

The revolving door to the TFC front office needs to stop spinning before I start to have any confidence that this franchise is on the road to recovery. The roster rules will keep the squad turning over, but if the front office is stable long enough to keep a system in place then we might start seeing some results on the field.

I thought this was a pretty bizarre piece of news. Intel has reached an agreement with Barcelona to sponsor the inside of their jerseys, their logo only to be visible if a player lifts his shirt up when celebrating a goal.

A recent trend has seen players revealing messages written on their undershirts after scoring goals.

I wonder if Barcelona players will be mandated to celebrate goals in that manner.

The TFC, in rebuilding mode, traded sound goalkeeper Stefan Frei to Seattle for a pick, acquired midfielder from Dallas, a Brazilian named Jackson, and signed Brazilian star young forward Gilberto.

The TFC are not done yet, as they may pursue Dwayne DeRosario as well as an interest in Dafoe of England and Italy's Gilardino.  They already have one DP (designated player) filled courtesy of Argentina's Laba.  Only one other spot available.

This Defoe thing is interesting...AFAIK he wants to play for England this summer and crossing ocean to the MLS might seriously dampen his chances...would be great for TFC tho he will score goals in buckets.

Agree to all your picks but one, I'll take Milan over Atletico. Though, would not be surprised if United and Chelsea fail to move on as well. Going to be some great games anyways!

On paper TFC is really looking like they should be a playoff team next year.

They added the much discussed Dwayne De Rosario back into the fold.  He's likely to sign a cheaper contract to make the roster work.  The team might actually have a fighting chance next year.  Not a bad defensive group and they really hammered home some offensive star potential.

If they can scoop Defoe <still not confirmed by Spurs or TFC> I guarantee they make the playoffs. But someone needs to tell Drake to stay the hell out of it.

How fantastic has the EPL been up to this point? Best. Season. Ever.
