Trade deadline moves

This team needs to make some moves, ASAP, to make them "heavier"....they don't hit, they don't body check and they don't protect each other. If you watch some of the other contending teams like Washington and Vegas play you can see a big difference. The rink crews need to go screw down the boards after every period. This team is too soft ( can be translated to "no heart") Teams coming into the ACC for a game must just love it because it's like getting the night off! I don't know what the answer is right now because it just seems too large. This team will get killed come play-off time. One thing I would like to see is Nelander for a big tough defenceman. Love Jake but it's time he went as well!!!

I don't really agree with your main point but I do agree that's it's too easy to play in the ACC (screw the new name).  Part of that is the crowd.  Over the years I've read all kinds of excuses but it literally is like playing in a library.  Aside from a few weak GLG chants every once in awhile there is nothing to generate excitement.  Say what you will but it does make it a bit easier for other teams.

The chief excuse you hear is "But that's not borne out by actually looking at the team's home record over the years" but, I mean, are you going to believe that over your gut?

My gut don't believe you.

Freakonomics radio did an episode where they worked with some people who had studied home field advantage, and found that the data says it?s real. They concluded the explanation was involuntary referee bias.

For anyone interested the Freakonomics episode can be found here: http://freakonomics.com/2011/12/18/football-freakonomics-how-advantageous-is-home-field-advantage-and-why/

Which suggests Leafs fans could be doing more to help the team if they were louder.

How about a 3-way *snicker* with St Louis and Edmonton?

To EDM: Kadri, Gauthier
To STL: Edm 1st, Puljujarvi, Durzi
To TOR: Pietrangelo, EDM 2nd

Then send TOR 1st, EDM 2nd and Brown to Carolina for Williams and Faulk

Defense would be gooood:

Rielly-Pietrangelo
Gardiner-Faulk
Dermott-Hainsey/Zaitsev/Oz

  :D :D

I think something revolving around Brown for Gudas should be explored. We know that Babcock (and lots of fans) love Brown and wouldn't want to see him go, but if he's the price to bring in a big and tough defenceman (with surprisingly good possession numbers) then I think everyone would be ok with him going out.

Who's playing 3rd line center with Kadri out? Lindholm, and goat is gone so who's 4th line center? You've weakened those forward lines

Nylander?

Anyway I was just spit-balling; I'd rather keep Kadri (barring some sweetheart return).

I love you.

Also it means that "Ref you suck" chants are not strategic.

You are misreading my statement. I'm not saying home-field advantage doesn't exist, I'm saying that there's no indication when you look at the Leafs' home-ice advantage over the years that their home-ice advantage is distinctly worse than anyone else's, which it would if as ZBBM claims the Leafs play in a particularly quiet building.

I don't know what's going to happen on trade deadline day other than 1 important fact, I'll be sitting on my ass all day watching TV as I've booked that day off.

Ah, fair enough.

Is that a statement of opinion or fact? I.e is there relative data, or are you just pointing out that the Leafs have won a lot of home games?

There's certainly data on it, over the almost 20 years this board has existed the "The ACC is too quiet thing" has been brought up before and people have thrown numbers around that more or less conclude that the Leafs at home aren't much different than anyone else. I don't have any links handy if that's what you're looking for but just via eyeballs the Leafs tied for the 2nd most home wins in the league just last year.

If you could get us some decibel level readings from where the Leafs play their home games, that'd be great.

Unrealistic number of trades, but hey, all for fun:

Brown for Puljujarvi
Gardiner for 1st + B prospect
1st + B prospect (from Gardiner trade) + 2nd + Lily for Pietrangelo
Zaitsev + 1st + 3rd for Gudas

Johnsson - Matthews - Nylander
Hyman - Tavares - Marner
Puljujarvi - Kadri - Kapanen
Marleau - Lindholm - Moore

Reilly - Pietrangelo
Dermott - Gudas
Hainsey - Oz
If only it was this easy.  I like it somewhat though.

Not sure on giving up Lily or acquiring Gudus.

Oh baby

I will straight up name my first child Kyle or Kylie if he unloads the Zaitsev contract without taking on a comparable deal.
