Turris to Ottawa

Nik not knowing all the facts do you think Turris made an error in his stance?  If he quietly approached Coyotes and was told he would not be traded I am not sure what else he could do except go public.  If he did not try the quiet route first I would think he has damaged his reputation but obviously not enough to deter teams from taking chance on him.  I do believe however that he has cost himself some money in the short term but if he plays to potential in Ottawa that will be earned back quickly on next contract.  His chance of becoming offensive force in Phoenix were fairly slim.

Well, for starters, I'd have to assume that Turris did initially go with a quiet route. Whenever he decided he didn't want to play in Phoenix I'm sure that was communicated privately to Maloney. The only reason it got loud was that Maloney didn't want to trade him and Turris didn't want to bend. Eventually they reached an agreement where, I'm guessing, Turris agreed to a reasonable deal with the understanding that he was going to be dealt promptly.

Did he make a mistake? It depends on what his end game was. If it was just to leave Phoenix I think he went about it the only way he could. I don't buy the idea that his reputation is damaged. He'll live and die by how well he plays in Ottawa. He pops a few 30 goal seasons and I'm guessing he'll get paid like anyone else.

Theres something about a young player with less than 50 points in his career demanding and dictating the terms of what/where he plays in the NHL that really makes me sour.

Pass.

Again, Turris wasn't contractually bound to the Coyotes. All he did was, as a RFA, not want to sign with the team that held his rights.

Good point.

Probably an apples to oranges comparison, but Kaberle sat out for a bit as an RFA too.

Given what happened to Carter and Richards, I'm not sure I could blame any player who seeks to leverage their bargaining position in any manner they see fit.

I think he'll do very well in Ottawa and the Leafs just became a little weaker in the division because of it. The Leafs are playing chutes and ladders and they're hitting a lot more chutes than ladders lately and Ottawa just put another chute for them to slide down on.

Like most others, would have thought hard about doing it straight up, the second round pick is a bit of a joke.  Turris value is low right now because of the baggage but he has bags of potential, but it is just that, whether he amounts to anything is yet to be seen.

Runblad looks to have had the generally accepted higher stock right now so it is curious.  I guess like others mentioned, with some offensive depth on the back end, Murray wanted to try and get offensive help up front.

I read that Phoenix wanted Zibanejad/Silfverberg + 1st, but Murray really didn't want to give up that 1st, and that's why it became Rundblad + 2nd.

Apparently there are a number of D prospects Murray's eyeing in the first round that will make Rundblad expendable.

God I hope he's right.
