Useless Thread

The way I understand it is this only really works with companies that big hedge funds have taken significant short positions on.

Pumping the price I believe just needs enough people with enough money buying the stock for ever increasing prices, kinda like in Wolf of Wall Street (pump and dump). Gutting a hedge fund is another story though.

If I'm following this correctly (and I'm pretty out of my depth here), basically, Citadel (who owns Robinhood, the service that allows retail traders to operate) amplified the wallstreetbets shortsqueeze on its competitor Melvin, and then bailed them out to now essentially own them too. And now that Citadel has scooped up a pretty big asset, it is trying to turn off the hose to preserve its new asset. They're now only allow sells, not buys, so the stock prices will inevitably fall again and Citadel reaps the benefits for the small price of letting a few average folk pay off tuition or get their pet's much needed emergency surgery.

So, with all the talk about our wacky former Governor General I can't help but think that maybe it's time to think about the whole selection process? Because I kind of feel like the Governor General should be someone with a little, I don't know, pizzazz? Not a celebrity maybe but at least someone you'd be excited to meet outside of them being the Governor General. I don't know, David Suzuki or Margaret Atwood or Neil Young or something.

Because otherwise, what's the point of having a Head of State? If it's just a job for well-connected uppercrust Canadians to feel all prestigious about then it feels like a bit of a waste of time. I suppose to an extent I'm pro-Republic and just getting a President in there but if we're going to stick with the GG, I feel like there could maybe be some slightly more populist choices in the future?

Or just make it a pre-requisite for the job that you had to be a Team Canada Captain. Let Gretzky do it for a while then pass it off to Scott Niedermayer or whoever.

There's a picture of a dog on the bottle..

EDIT: oh, he adresses that..

The useless thread is the right place to talk about the GG.
