Useless Thread

I've entered another Marathon, this time in Dublin in October.

I have no idea why I felt this was a good idea.

But I do feel like I can improve upon my time from the last one.

Man, what kind of technological age do we live in where you ordered something from a site (*cough* Google *cough*), they picked the wrong address from your file, even though it did not match the address on the credit card that they charged, and even though you have a tracking number from UPS, you cannot change where the package is going to unless it is out for delivery or at least one attempt has been made.  So frustrating that I am going to probably have to report my package lost or stolen and get a refund and then reorder it to the correct address.

What do we call this scandal? OceanGategate?

David Pogue, the journalist in the video, mentioned earlier today that the sub was lost for 5 hrs that day of filming and OceanGate shut off the internet on the command boat.

Just recovering the sub would be a miracle. The fact that they are exploring maybe one of the largest cautionary tales of hubris is painfully ironic. Don?t mess with the ocean.

There's also a level of irony that a vessel trying to explore one of the most famous sunken ships, in one of the deepest sections of ocean, also appears to have sunk, and also under allegations of safety concerns.

Here's the original 10 minute video on OceanGate by CBS from 6 months ago:

I get the sensationalism of the story but I do think that it's sad that we just had a tragic ship accident with 78 confirmed deaths and potentially many more just this past week that has basically had little media attention, but a horrible company that provides rich tourism is getting a massive search and rescue effort and around the clock media attention.

This is still very tragic for the 3 passengers and 2 employees that were on this sub.

I think you may have a point here.

I just can?t get my head around why on earth anyone would you pay ?250,000 to get in something that looks like my son made it in his nursery school, controlled by a wireless ps4 controller and bolted shut from the outside with no way to open it from the inside.

And then go hundreds of metres into one of the harshest environments known to man in it.

Seems it took them over 8 hours from losing contact to requesting help/reporting to authorities. Sounds? delayed.

Anyone else remember that study (or bunch of them) that found that super wealthy folks tended to become sociopaths?

Nothing I didn't know already. I think the most wild thing is how bad his actual code was at Zip2 that they had to bring in professionals to clean it up and the fact that he hasn't really done anything beyond buying companies already doing things prior to him. Nothing wrong with being an opportunist but the way it gets construed that he helps engineer rockets is beyond insane.

I hate giving this douche-nozzle airtime, but I don?t mind the public recognition that he absolutely is one.

I genuinely have no idea why people keep enabling these narcissistic Farquaads.
