Who will be the new coach of the Leafs

I don?t know how you fire Keefe and then say McLellan is the better choice?

Not that I put this all on a coach, but the guy who missed the playoffs twice with McDavid?

McDavid for half a season as a rookie and another year with garbage goaltending. Not sure I'd put much of that on McLellan. Not saying he's necessary the best choice, I just don't really look at his failures in Edmonton being on his coaching. He had some pretty miserable rosters to start with and young guys who hadn't quite hit their strides yet.

Sure. That?s fair. But still, I?m not sure how you look at his record and Keefe and say ?ok this is an improvement?.

And for the record, I don?t put that much stock in coaching. I really don?t think a new coach is going to make a dramatic difference to this roster, as constructed at the moment.
I think any of the available coaches outside of Q are sideways moves. Brind'Amour, Cooper would be upgrades in the non available category.

Berube got his team over the hump, so we have to give him that. In all honestly, this is what the Leafs are looking for.

A McLellan hiring wouldn't make a lot of sense within those parameters.

Q is a non-starter considering his role in enabling the perpetration of sexual assault (twice!). There's no way an organization like MLSE with so many fingers in corporate sponsorships and a huge staff would say this is the right place for someone to work on a second chance. If Kyle Beach publicly absolves Quennville of wrongdoing, perhaps there is a conversation to be had with the NHL, but he's had plenty of time to do that if he felt it was right.

This isn't a matter of Q doing his time with a little suspension for a faux-pas and letting that get swept under the rug once no one is talking about it (again).

He's not eligible to coach in the NHL. He needs to be scratched off everyone's lists. Permanently.

I'm not expecting much.  Is Randy Carlyle available too?

Let's hire Q

Eh, I wouldn't touch him.  His "miss" was a huge failure in judgment, at the very least.

Doesn?t really matter if Kyle has given his blessing or not. Gary hasn?t given his.

I mean even if Gary gives his I'd still pass on him.

I would, too, but, until then, it's all moot and his name shouldn't be on any serious lists. No sense in giving any consideration to a guy who can't actually take the job.

Berube met with the Jets yesterday after two days of meetings with the Leafs over the weekend. Friedman, on today's 32T pod, believes Berube is the front runner for Toronto.

He met with the Jets on a Zoom call, not exactly over the moon for that job I guess

Jets are mostly doing their due diligence before handing the job to Arniel.

They balked on Berube when he asked if he can work remotely if he's coach.

Carolina is out, does that make Brind"Amour available now?

Possibly but it feels like hitching our wagon to the hopes of Brindamour seems very dicey. He likes it in Carolina and I think if he's paid 80% of the value that he'd get with the Leafs he'd probably just stay. Who knows how long these negotiations could take...
