Wings vs Ducks

I watched the last 3 minutes of the 3rd period, and it was the most exciting playoff hockey so far this year.  Tying goal, end to end rushes, huge saves, power play...and now the game is going to OT!

Detroit wins it 5-4 in OT on a power-play by Swede Gustav Nyquist, thanks to the Ducks defenseman Sheldon Souray's slashing penalty before the end of regulation time, much to the consternation of Ducks' fans.

What made the Red Wings victory hurt more for the Anaheim faithful was the come-from-behind 3 goals the  Ducks scored following a 3-1 deficit.

A very exciting and  interesting playoff game, indeed.

Just watched the highlights - a couple of those goals on Howard were pretty soft - I didn't see any of the saves he made to compensate for that, though. :)

Amazingly enough, the Wings scored goals in the first minute and a half of all four periods.

I expect the teams to split again in Detroit.

Ducks take 2 games to 1 lead with a resounding 4-0 win over the Wings in Detroit for Game 3.

Justin Abdelkader didn't help Detroit's cause as he incurred a major plus a game misconduct for his hit on Anaheim's Toni Lydman.  The Ducks with the power play scored and never looked back in blanking the Wings for the win.

Suspension for Abdelkader?

Players should be starting to realize that the big crushing hit as we know it is finished.  No matter how well you plan it, it is almost impossible to do it perfectly.  The NHL is determined to get rid of plays that see players hurt and these usually have that result.  That is 2 this week and this one like the other will lead to a suspension.

Wings win it in OT on a goal by Damian Brunner.  Final score 3-2 and a 2 games to 2 series tie.

Now for some even better news for Detroit fans, the Red Wings have won 19 out of 22 series that were tied at 2 games apiece, having accomplished this during their run of 22 straight post-season appearances.

In other words, this series now is far from over.

I could see this one going 7 games.

Agree.

Anaheim's Nick Bonino's OT goal over the Red Wings gave the Ducks a 3 games to 2 series lead.  Find score:  Anaheim 3 Detroit 2.

While Detroit 'keeper Jimmy Howard was phenominal, it wasn't enough to stop the Ducks from a come-from-behind effort, especially on Anaheim's Ryan Getzlaf's tying goal.

A key turning point in the game was the 5 minute powerplay the Wings had to their advantage, or, we shall say disadvantage, as the Ducks made short work of it.  Not only that but Detroit took a penalty in the last few minutes of the second period leading to Getzlaf's tying goal for the Ducks.  Certainly the Red Wings failure to score on their powerplay AND incurring a penalty at the same time negated any benefits befitting them.

The Ducks outsmarted the Wings in this one.

Hey LHF, how many bears to you own? Or do you just dress up the same ones in different uni's?

This is mostly the same bears, just wearing all my son's old Yzerman shirts and tshirts and sweaters. There are a couple that are just RedWings fans (one's in a Curtis Joseph jersey, one's in a Steve Yzerman jersey) but mostly they're redressed Game Day (Leaf) Bears.  And this is a drop in the bucket. Pictured here are 16 guys. The latest Leaf bears picture has 19, of whom 13 are the same guys as here. In total, I have over 100 stuffed polar bears, and another 50 or so other bears, pandas and dogs (mostly). But the Leaf game day bears are all polar bears now, because of Carlton :)

That's quite the collection. Better dress them up in Leafs sweaters and get ready to post!

Well, what'd you know Detroit fans, your team is still alive.  Thanks in large part to forward Henrik Zetterberg who's two goals were crucial -- his second came in OT -- and to goaltender Jimmy Howard in making the right saves at the right time.  Final score:  Detroit 3  Anaheim 2  OT  Wings take a 3 games to 2 series lead.

Back to "hockeytown" for Game 6 Sunday night,  with the Wings poised to take the series, unless the Ducks have other plans.  They sure didn't at home in Anaheim.

Wings win it 3-2 and take the series 4 games to 3.

Great efforts from Detroit's Henrik Zetterberg, Pavel Datsyuk, and goalkeeper Jimmy Howard,

Anaheim's top guns went missing, namely Cory Perry (where was you?), and Getzlaf, who registered zilch goals in the last 2 games of the series (in other words, when it counter the most).  The end result was simply not enough for the Ducks even though the last few games were close.

Ciao Anaheim!

Good for Detroit. I'm pretty pleased that they won.

As for Anaheim, at least they have another 8 years with Getzlaf and Perry to get it right. :)
