Looks like Canada should be able to ice a strong team with pool of available talent.

Nugent-Hopkins, Eberle, Tavares, Moulson, Stamkos, St. Louis, Perry, Getzlaf, Staal, Skinner, Duchene, Kane, Nash, Lupul, Benn, Ribiero and Ryder are among the forwards that might be available.

The D pool isn't as deep but I might missing a few: Subban, Schenn, Phaneuf, Myers, Byfuglein, Regher, Bouwmeester, Beauchemin.

Price, Ward, Riemer, Mason, Dubnyk could be possibilities in goal.

Some will decline invitations and some might have injuries but there is potential for a good team there.

Ward is confirmed to play, and I doubt Price goes considering his injury. Pretty good news considering we haven't really had a legitimate starter in this tournament for a few years.

I'd go with Ward and Dubnyk as back-up, with Mason the third-stringer.

Nugent-Hopkins in, Stamkos out... he's "going rest the shoulder", boooooo.

To each their own, but I just don't get why anyone cares about this tournament, doesn't excite me in the least. I mean, what exactly is this tournament supposed to prove when most of the countries best players are in the playoffs?

Probably not much, but, it's certainly a break from the NHL since the games are played (when they are) on a large European ice rink, the play is speedy and because of the larger ice surface, as well as the international on- ice contingent, one usually sees a different standard of play.

Besides, players representing Canada whose teams have been eliminated from post-season contention get a chance to shine and (hopefully) try and win a championship.  I get your point, though, in that Canada doesn't often win in these WHC, but, whether we win or not, we're represented anyways.

The groupings for the 2014 Olympics in Sochi, Russia will be set once the tournament wraps up next month.

So that's one reason.

It doesn't prove anything, but the games are entertaining.

Why do people care about the world juniors when the best junior aged players are in the NHL.
