Although I liked McCabe, it sounds like the fans actually accomplished something by giving him a reason to waive in NMC. Not that the return really helped. Van Ryan's injury history caught up with him immediately after the trade to Toronto.

I grew up watching him and was always in awe of him. Definitely too bad but when you're lugging around guys like Jonas Hoglund...

Haha, note how I said he did a lot to help Tavares, and neglected to mention the above.

That said, Tavares was deployed to mitigate his weakness and bolster his opportunities for success.

Domi was initially thrust into a situation well over his head (hard match L1), and then relegated to a misfit line while playing through a back injury. He's not the level of player that you'd want the coaching staff to have to orient the whole team structure around, but his deployment did him no favours, while he still gave what he had to the team.

I remember when he left for Vancouver, and this Ottawa fan said to me "I think you are about to realize just how good of a player Mats Sundin is, now that he has left. This is going to be a bigger hole than when Gilmour left". And he was not wrong.

Most likely, TLK will be returning to Rogle for the season. But there is definitely some kind of 3LW/C role that is in a sketchy state right now and it wouldn't be crazy to have him understudy for Nick Paul as a two-way centre.
