2023-24 Toronto Maple Leafs General Discussion

McMann and Domi both being hurt would leave the team without any spare healthy forwards on the roster. That would really prevent the Leafs from being able to rest some in game 82. At most one guy could sit if they go 11F/7D.

Well, this is a pretty pickle.  The goalies better get their ship together, a fair chunk of offense could be out for G1.

Benoit Line 1 winger with Matthews and Bert!

I'd bet once Matthews gets his 70th that that'll be his last shift for the year.

You'd love to see it.  Matthews scores in the first period and then you see him leave for the showers.

I would probably change the channel if he scored (post celebration). It's literally the only thing they're playing for.

Things left to play for:
[*] Matthews 69 --> 70 G
[*] Matthews 6 --> 7 hat tricks in one season
[*] Nylander 97 ---> 100 pts
[*] Rielly 57 --> 60 pts
[*] Robertson 14 --> 15 G
[*] Lyubushkin 0 --> 1 G
[*] Edmundson 0 --> 1 G (He had one with WSH already)

The game still holds some meaning for Florida, so I doubt that'll happen. If he scores early, though, he'll definitely have a lighter night than usual.

Also maybe the Leafs should learn to not do this:
?I hated the first period. I hated the last 10 minutes of the first period, I should say. I thought we started just fine. We got a big power-play goal that got us going.

I thought we were good in the first 10 minutes. Auston hit the crossbar in alone. We got a power-play goal. It seemed like one of those nights where our guys thought it was going to be easy. We know how that goes when that is the case.

There is not going to be much coming easy from here.?

It's pretty wild to think it's a foregone conclusion that we'll play the Panthers but there's still a reasonable chance we play Boston.

My favourite part is the Leafs play either Florida/Boston in the first round and either Tampa/Florida/Boston in the second depending on how things shake out. I LOVE the NHL playoff format (sarcasm). Leafs are only allowed to play 3 teams in the playoffs it seems.

Well... you have to win to get out of your division... or at least win the division to face a wild card team. The Leafs are finishing 5th and will be playing the 4th place in the east.

I think that's my point. If it was seeded 1-8, finishing 5th, the Leafs would play either the Rangers or Carolina in round two if they both win their series. Just more options, more variety. It's boring seeing the same team every year.

That being said, I'm actually excited to face Boston, as the Leafs haven't played them for a few years now.

Eligible for the playoffs (though realistically unlikely other than as a practice body). Not eligible for the Marlies but burns an ELC year.
