1 game for Backstrom.

So Weber is a bigger star than Backstrom? I suppose that makes sense then.

The match penalty Backstrom received made it harder for the league to just slap him on the wrist here. Rescinding the automatic 1 game suspension would have been harder to justify.

I think they were very different incidents.

Backstrom cross checked Peverley in the face.

And Weber smashed Zetterberg's face into the glass. Both were at the end of the game. Both were in retaliation to a recent event.

I think smashed is an exaggeration, but that's a discussion for that series thread.

Shanny would still have every right to overturn the suspension if he saw fit. It's been done before. I don't think he would have felt any pressure about having to justify doing so.

Still though even using your explanation is still points to the inconsistency the entire league has shown these playoffs. Why was Backstrom's play a match penalty when Weber's wasn't?

Well, I know I don't have to explain to you how maddening the inconsistency of NHL on-ice officials can be.

I'm pretty sure the ref from that last Buffalo-Toronto game is still waiting to blow the whistle.

Clever looking bit of interference by Ovie there to keep Ference from getting back on that 2 on 1. Nice goal by the Caps.

Edit: Washington has been absolutely atrocious in the first. Shots are 12-2 Boston and it is 1-1.

Ridiculous shot by Semin puts the caps up 2-1

I'm not an Ovechkin fan but I hope he can catch some fire and give the Bruins a hard time

Yes! Not a Washington fan but God, I H.A.T.E. Boston. Maybe Holtby steals the series. - Would be nice to see the Bruins fall to a hot goalie.

Back in his draft year I watched a lot of Saskatoon Blades games and suggested the Leafs take a flyer on Holtby.  Something about his personality made me think he had a chance at an NHL career.  He never got rattled and seemed to improve as the year went on in junior.

Capitals win 2-1, on a 44 save performance by netminder Brayden Holtby.  Alexander Semin scored the winning go-ahead goal, as Washington ties their series with Boston at 2 games to 2.

Seguin has 1 assist in his last 15 playoff games.  THANK YOU KESSEL!!! *clap* *clap* *clapclapclap*

All of Boston's forwards are struggling. Anyone see Thomas's post game interview? Interesting approach

What did he say?  Did he mention how much he hates gays and the poor?

I think Thomas is starting to like the smell of his own farts
