OBI WAN KENHOLTBY?

Really impressive series from Holtby.

His best SV% in the WHL was .910; he had a 912 SV% in a 7-game series loss.
His best year in the ECHL was a .911 SV% in 11 games
His best year in the AHL was a .920 SV% over 20 games last year (but he fell back to a .906 SV% this year)
And in the NHL he has a career .929 SV% in 21 games and a .940 SV% in 7 playoff games.

Full marks to Washington for not only beating the defending champions, but doing so by ways no one associates their team with, by blocking shots and playing a tight defence.

Now if they can get Ovechkin and Backstrom going as we know they can, they could become one of the favourites.  Big coming out party for Holtby, who had a great series.

I watched him play some AHL games over the last couple of years. I commented on this site more than once how impressed I was with him. He single handedly stole some games against the Marlies and was their best player. Here's the most recent:

the Caps have two up and coming goalies in  Neuvirth & Holtby (who really impressed me when I saw him).

Now I have come to learn that placing too much stock in your impressions of NHL goalies risks mental health issues.  ;) :) I'm grateful I don't have to try to make a living assessing that talent. The predictability of the position confounds me compared to pre lockout years. But for whatever it's worth, I did feel that it was Holtby who in part justified the Caps moving Varlamov.

Would I have predicted he'd beat Tim Thomas & the Bruins? Nope. But regardless of his stats, I haven't been all that surprised by his play. He seemed like a pretty good goalie to me long before this series.

I love the fact the Bruins are done and, yes I know Seguin really has nothing to do with Toronto, but I'm glad he had a sub-par series as well. Screw it.

I agree with whoever said Thomas may be on his way out of Boston. They have a sick young goalie in Rask and I think Thomas just really became a distraction this year, for whatever reason. Bruins management may have been willing to deal with it for the sake of a Vezina/Conn Smythe winner, but not a goalie who started to finally look his age.

The Capitals might become the ultimate darkhorse if Ovechkin gets going. The awesome non-flinch .gif aside, I still think Vokoun may take over between the pipes before it's all said and done. Assuming he's not seriously injured, that is.

How about Joel Ward too.  Undrafted, plays 4 years of University hockey and while only a ~.33 PPG player has 20 points in 25 playoff games.

holy crap

Can't believe they were all Boston Bruins fans uttering such rubbish.  Then again, if they were, it's a sad day for 'sore loser' Boston hockey fans.  Besides, anyone who utters racist slogans is not a true hockey fan, but an idiotic ignoramous...

...someone should remind these dumbells that Boston was the first NHL team to have had an African-Canadian hockey player named Willie O'Ree back in those days.  None too proud of this, eh?!

Anyways, am happy to see the Bruins e-l-i-m-i-n-a-t-e-d.  :)  Way to go, Caps!!

I've never been to Boston but know lots of people who have... Maybe BostonLeaf can verify this but it is my understanding that there are a bunch of Irish there who just don't take too kindly to Blacks being out of night and as a result, there are parts of Boston where Blacks just don't dare go out at night. - Sadly, its just by in large such a racist town as I understand it.

I think as a whole the US is still a fairly racist country - not sure how different Boston is from say Sanford Florida.
