Has anyone mentioned Giroux's 8 year/66.2 million dollar extension? Because yowzas.

They'll be trading players next summer or at this season's deadline. Nonis might want to give them a call. Brayden Schenn must wonder where he fits in on that team.

Yeah, Kessel's agent loved that deal.

I don't know how they're going to be able to keep that club together next season:

Ya, no way Kessel comes in less than $7.5M per, for 8 years.
Somehow I feel that Kessel won't be with the leafs. He should want to sign until midseason and get a feel for what the future holdas for the team.  Making the playoffs this shortened season could just be a statistical oddity and he may want more chances at the cup than he's been given so far

Sorry guys. We only trade with the Kings.

As soon as I saw that deal my first thought was, how long until he is in LA?

Timmonen and Meszaros expire for 10M, Pronger on LTIR gives them 16M in caproom plus any cap increases.

Sorry, should have said, only young talented players with huge upsides that we have signed to long-term cap circumvention deals get traded to the Kings.

Alex Burmistrov signed a 2 year deal with KHL, leaves Winnipeg.

Burmistrov was the 8th overall pick in 2010. Apparently wasn't happy with his role in Winnipeg.

Ouch...haven't many people been saying the KHL is not a deterrent to drafting Russian players?  Well here you go, although I suppose with only 10 pts last year they might not be too broken up about it.

This is no more a blanket deterrent to drafting Russian players than Justin Schultz not signing in Anaheim is for drafting North American players.

The Oilers acquire David Perron from St.Louis for Magnus Paajarvi and 2nd round pick: http://thesco.re/12mK4dB

I LOVE what the Oilers have done from the draft on...

They've made some nice moves, but, I look at their roster and I still see a team that's not likely to make the playoffs.

I think Edmonton got the better of that trade. Perron is a pretty good player, Paajarvi hasn't done much apart from being a top 10 pick.
