I wonder if Santorelli gets a look from someone.

He had a twenty goal season not very long ago.

Thought this was kind of funny, apparently the Flyers assistant GM stated that Andreas Lilja wouldn't cost Philly anything on the cap if he was sent to their farm team, when in fact he of course would still carry a cap hit:

If in the AHL, under the new CBA, Colton Orr's $1 mil salary costs the Leafs cap $100k. Connolly's $4.75 mil contract in the AHL costs the Leafs cap $3.85 mil. You can see that on Capgeek in the link below:
http://www.capgeek.com/mapleleafs/
In both cases, accord to Capgeek and what I've read, the cap hit for a player sent to the AHL is the contract cap hit less $900k.

Lilja's NHL contract is $737.5k - less than $900k
http://www.capgeek.com/player/302

I don't understand the claim that the Flyers Ass't GM is wrong about Lilja's AHL cap hit.

The article got half of it right then I guess. The 35+ rule didn't change at all, correct? So his whole cap hit will still count because of that.

Unless things are different for players on 35+ contracts (and I haven't seen any indication that they are), the Flyers' Asst Gm is right and whoever is calling him out is still working off the rules of the previous CBA.

We don't really know. I'm not sure it hasn't been modified to include the changes to the overall system - but, even under the old CBA, the 1st season a player on a 35+ contract spent in the AHL came off the cap. In subsequent seasons, teams only saved $100K. The one game he played for the Phantoms last season may end up screwing them over here.

I just checked out that summary of terms pdf that was floating around earlier and in it it states that the 35+ rule remained status quo.

And I just did a twitter search on Lilja to see if anyone else noteworthy chimed in:

CapGeek ‏@capgeek

Andreas Lilja will count at $637,500 against the #Flyers cap while in the minors due to the 35-plus rule.

edit: so is it safe to laugh at the Flyers again?

I had seen this from Bill Meltzer after he'd checked with NHL management

OK... so the new $900K threshold waiver rules combine with the existing over-35 rules on waivers. Makes sense. No cap hit on Lilja.

But just now,  when I checked with a more recent CapGeek tweet, they say:
https://twitter.com/capgeek/status/292011961250611202
Andreas Lilja will count at $637,500 against the #Flyers cap while in the minors due to the 35-plus rule.

It's been a while since I looked at the old CBA but I vaguely recall it applying to the first year of the 35+ contract only (regardless of where he played). Subsequent years of the 35+ contract were where you would run into trouble and it would count no matter what. And this is the 2nd year of his 35+ deal.

Yeah, that may have been it. Either way, he played in the AHL for part of last season, so it wouldn't apply here. I have to imagine the league minimum + $375K threshold applies to 35+ contracts as well. This is something that will be cleared up soon enough.

The timing of this CBA agreement may mean that we're flying blind on rules like this for the entire season - until they get it formalized.

Yeah. I imagine the league and PA are still trying to iron out the wrinkles themselves. Having things like this come up now is actually to their benefit going forward.

DarrenDreger: Connolly cleared Waivers.  WPG claimed James Wright off Waivers from FLA; NYI claimed Brian Strait from PIT.

TSNBobMcKenzie: All other players on waivers yesterday, including CGY goalie Karlsson and Irving, have cleared.

TSNBobMcKenzie: Only players on waivers today: McElhinney (CBJ), Butler (NJD), C Porter (STL).

Bob McKenzie ‏@TSNBobMcKenzie
LAK put Anthony Stewart on waivers. VAN puts Jim Vandermeer on waivers.

Someone might take a chance on both of those guys.

Stewart still intrigues me though I haven't seen him play in some time and he's got a fairly checkered record with clubs.

He's a bust IMO, plain and simple.

Judging by his junior career, he probably is what he is - a late 1st rounder who may have turned into a solid NHLer but was likely to be nothing special.

Maybe if the Leafs get Anthony it would help with getting Chris.....Kind of like Anaheim with Scott and more recently Carolina with Jordan....  :)

You're like a dog with a bone.  ;D

I think the Stewart for MacArthur train might have left the building.
