2012-2013 Waivers thread

DarrenDreger: Waivers: MTL claims Halpern off Waivers from NYR; J.Crabb, Z.Boychuk, and B.Lee clear Waivers; and  NYR place S.Bickel on Waivers.

It appears as though Boychuk's wild ride is over for now.

J. Jokinen on waivers... Is he @ 3mil for next year better than Bozak @ likely more?

No, I don't think so.

Jokinen is on the downside, possibly not in the league next year. We'll see if he gets picked up on waivers.

I don't think that he replaces Bozak. But I would claim him and maybe put him in the lineup over Frattin. Mostly for his shootout skills, but he's not a bad player even aside from that.

I haven't seen much of him lately. Not at all this year. But a couple of years ago, I liked him as a 2nd line center if a team was weak down the middle in their top 6 (like the Leafs were(. He's Bozak-like in terms of being soft. He's expendable for the Canes because Jordan Staal took his second line center spot and he's not a solid, physical checking center. He's good on faceoffs and the shootout.

But the fact that he's reached waivers suggests no NHL team was willing to give up anything to get him - which surprises me some. But it doesn't reflect well on how he's regarded by NHL GMs at this point  - something is up.

He's been on a downward trend in productivity 65 > 52 > 46 > 10 but I have a hard time seeing how not a single team would take a chance on the guy.

He's a good faceoff guy, he's gold in the shootout and he has a pretty decent offensive resume.  It's not like the guy is atrocious defensively either.  He's not a PK kind of player but he's far from pure incompetence.

If he didn't have that extra year on his contract, he'd definitely get picked up - if only for his faceoff and shootout skills alone - but another year at $3M per for a guy who has seen his offensive production drop like this . . . I'd wait to see if the Canes use a compliance buy out on him.

His ice time has slipped with the addition of Staal and the drop in quality of linemates. That's got to be a part of his loss of production.

With the signing of Semin, I guess this is the Canes simply trying to shed his contract.

A team that might consider him is the Coyotes. They have a lot of tight games where his shootout ability could be useful. They could use him as a second line scoring center to help with faceoffs and maybe bump Hanzel who isn't that good on the draw to a wing.

Sens put that shootout guy on waivers? Daugavins? Wonder if anyone picks him up for his sick ringette moves.

Claimed by the Bruins.

Jussi Jokinen cleared, Tim Wallace from CAR cleared too

LeBrun says GMs were scared off by Jokinen's 3M next year with the cap coming down.

Real_ESPNLeBrun: Spoke with one GM this morning who likes Jokinen and would have taken him if he was a pending UFA. Next year's $3 M on his deal scared teams

Real_ESPNLeBrun: Salary cap is going down next season. Teams will choose carefully before adding to next year's payroll...

TSNBobMcKenzie: MTL puts Tomas Kaberle on waivers.

TSNBobMcKenzie: Re: waivers providing flexibility. I'm told MTL doesn't plan on demoting Kaberle if he clears but will have ability to do so if necessary.

Man did Kaberle go south quickly.
