2012 NHL Entry Draft

I would think (hope) the Leafs will stick with taking the best player available.

Assuming we draft top 3, would anyone trade that pick for JVR?

I'm hoping the Leafs might be able to trade some guys - Armstrong, Connolly, perhaps Mac - for draft picks and cap room.  Take some higher risk/higher payoff picks at the draft and use the cap space to sign some skill and toughness.

Agreed, NEVER. we keep this one.

Yeah, if the brass feels a "franchise player" is available when we draft, you keep the pick. That said, I'm open to moving the pick if it's low enough where they feel that guy just isn't available anymore.

No chance in hell.

What if they took Komi in the deal??

Still no. There are other ways to deal with Komi.

Tonya?  Tonya Harding?  Is that you???

Well, I was thinking buyout or some sort of miracle trade where we don't have to give up much to rid ourselves of him but hey, whatever works I guess.

Nope. My guess is, if he were in this draft, he wouldn't crack the top 5. The top end of this year's draft is really really good. The problem is that after that, there appears to be nothing all that interesting. It's like there's an entire middle tier or two of players that would be found in most drafts that are missing from this draft.

Well in the 2nd round there'll probably be Frk, Marcantouni, Wilson, maybe Subban (if not Dansk)...perhaps a few of Samuelson, Finn, Sissons, and Ebert.

Frk was supposed to be a top 10 pick, till he got concussed or whatever.

I think the Leafs should target a goalie with their 2nd. Vasilevski is probably gone, but Subban might be there, and if not...Dansk will in all likelihood be there.

Looks like Sarnia is getting crushed by Saginaw... How does this bode for Yakupov/Galch?

Crushed might be a bit strong. The series is 3-2 now in favour of Saginaw and 3 of the games have gone to overtime.

Well, the last game they really crapped the bed. Yakupov and Galch both held off the scoresheet. It doesn't look like they're really powering through the series.

They were both at a point-per-game mark prior to that game. I suppose you would expect a little more than that considering their potential draft positions, but it's not like they've been invisible on the points board all around. I've read some pretty positive comments about Galy's game too considering the injury he just came off of.

Burke has to pick a centre. Please no D, we have plenty of D prospects. Grigorenko is obviously most talented, but Galchenyuk would be nice pick too. I guess Burke would prefer taking American prospect over Russian, especially if there are some reports that Grigorenko has work-ethic issues (meaning not exactely Carlyle type of player).

Dunno why but I totally missed that Galchenyuk played for team USA.

So, after realizing I didn't know this guy very well I looked around and, while far from a literary genius, the kid maintained a blog at NHL.com this year.

Seasons are over for both Yakupov and Galchenyuk. Neither was as dominant as you'd expect in their first round loss, but I've read a number of times that Galy actually outplayed Yakupov during the series. Perhaps Yakupov came back a bit too early from his concussion.

Could be a year where maybe having the #1 pick isn't such a good thing. I mean you kind of have to take Yakupov but at the same time, there's some risk in doing so.

I think this year there's a lot of good players you can pick up until the 10th pick or so. I think they all carry some risk, but all carry more of a reward.
