2012 Toronto Blue Jays Thread

What's the word on Felix Doubront?  Not familiar with him.

On another note- this is the first time in a long time that I've come into the season with extremely low expectations.  Chipper hurt and retiring at years end (this is the equivalent to a Mats Sundin for many of us here).  Hudson going to miss the first month of the season (at least).  The inevitable injury to one of O'Flaherty, Kimbrel or Venters (all 3 are unbelievably good but overworked).  The giant step back Heyward took last year and not knowing if we will get 2010 Jason or 2011 Jason.  The unbelievable collapse in September.  The Marlins getting Reyes.  The Nationals much improved and Strasburg back.

I am looking forward to seeing a healthy Tommy Hanson & Jair Jurrjens, as well as how Freddie Freeman progresses, Martin Prado bouncing back, and how the youngsters in the rotation do (Brandon Beachy and Mike Minor, whom I both really like).

I've set my expectations real low.  Probably 3rd in the division.

Young guy. Don't know the scouting report. Decent minor league numbers.

That's probably where I'd guess they finish. I think it'll be a very tight division though. I think it's like the AL east in a way, although sort of the poor man's version, where there's four good teams and a clear last place club.

Yeah, the NL East and the AL East are pretty similar.  Why am I more optimistic today then I was yesterday?  Maybe it's the opening day buzz I got going.

On another note- I know the Tigers are a good team and all but tell me again why teams should fear their starting pitching?  Other than Verlander of course.

Well, Fister had a pretty terrific year last year for one. Scherzer is kind of their Brendan Morrow in the sense that he had a pretty good xFIP. So afraid? I mean, I'm not. But it's a pretty decent staff.

Although we should probably have a separate MLB thread for this.

I get the sense that quite often during this season I will look at Colby Rasmus and think "I can't believe the Jays let their bat boys have such goofy looking haircuts" before realizing who he is.

Blow up the entire team, obviously we can see now that this roster is a failure, the season is over and none of the Jays' "highly touted" prospects have done anything of value in the majors yet.

Fire AA too.
