Why can't the relievers just ride it out? Cordero looked good in the 8th, if he's on his game, why not let him or whoever it happens to be close it out?
Peter D. said:I think Santos's nerves are getting the better of him right now. He is too amped up. Once he settles down I believe he'll be fine. If that means giving Cordero the closer's role for the time being until that happens, that's fine. But I'd give Santos a couple more weeks to turn things around.
The bigger concern should be the offence right now. Outside of Johnson and Encarnacion, the team is struggling at the plate. Arencibia batting less than .100 with only 1 hit? That has to change. I thought last night was one of Rasmus's better games.
I don't like seeing the team squandering games like this, particularly against a division rival such as the Red Sox. These games bite you in the butt at the end of the season.

Was it necessary to play some of one's best baseball at a time when these games don't count for much (other than to make the team or prove a player's worth).

Superior in what way exactly?Andy007 said:Zee said:Our closer sucks.
Sad thing is they had a superior closer in Gregg who they could have retained for last season without costing any assets.

Santos looked like he was too amped up. He was locating his breaking ball but couldn't locate his fastball. Seemed to me like it was a case of overthrowing the pitch. Sure, he was hitting 95mph but it was way off from where Arencibia was calling for it.bustaheims said:Borschevsky-Antropov-Kulemin said:It's two bad outings, folks.
One bad outing and one bad pitch, really.

For example, if you're Cordero, you know you're pretty much going out in the 8th inning and your job is to get over to the 9th. As thats the case, he can focus more on the task at hand as opposed to not knowing when he's going to pitch and for how long.

Most teams don't bother having such a fantastic spring training -- they start winning when it counts, meaning the regular season.
Exibition games are one thing, and the real ones are another. It seems that some Blue Jaya are already feeling the 'real' pressure.
