That's an ugly hit considering Wilson skated the entire length of the offensive zone to hit him...but it's also another example of a player turning his back to the hit and getting launched face first into them.  Someone needs to sit everyone down and tell them to stop doing that.

I don't think that's what he's doing though. I think he's making a move to reverse direction with the puck to get it out of the zone, not to protect himself or avoid a hit from Wilson. I don't know how you would tell a player to not do that because someone might launch themselves into them as Wilson does. Essentially you'd be telling a player that they can never have their back to an opposing player near the boards.
 
I can't see more than a game. Principle point of contact was the side/back, but Schenn turning contributed to it.

A suspension based on the severity of the charge might be warranted, but I don't think it was all that bad of a hit otherwise.

But that's why charging is so dangerous, you're going so fast into the boards that you don't have the time to make adjustments if the player you're about to hit turns as a result of a legitimate hockey move.
 
Which is why I suggested it might be worth a one-game suspension. Honestly, I think a 5 minute major would have been sufficient.

I suppose, then, I'm a little confused at how Schenn turning "contributed to it" because, to me, that's like saying that someone crossing the street contributed to getting hit by a car running a red light by walking in front of it.

And given your propensity to criticize others' analogies, I have to point out how silly yours is. Getting body checked in the course of a hockey game while you have the puck in the corner is expected; getting hit by a car burning through a red light is not. They're not similar. I understand what you're getting at: one should expect others to play within the rules, and I agree. The difference here is that the body check was a bit more violent than normally expected, but is otherwise normally expected.

No, I do, I just suppose that I don't understand your point of view on this one because, to me, the only way a player could avoid "contributing" to someone hitting him in the back in such a manner would be to never, ever quickly change direction and saying that Wilson didn't intend to hit him in the back but could not stop because Schenn moved quickly is the reason you shouldn't charge like that.

Analogies, sir, only really have to connect in a single way for them to have validity because they make a point more accessible and, as you sort of got mine, I'm still going to chalk that one up in the success column.

If I am doing something that is perfectly legal and safe unless someone else is doing something reckless I do not feel as though as I am "contributing" to the resulting collision.

In this particular situation, I don't think where Wilson connected is a significant part of the issue. To me, the problem is the massively excessive amount of force he used to make a hit on a player 5 feet away from the boards. That it was from behind made it look worse, but, Schenn's head is going to hit the boards hard on that hit if it's shoulder to shoulder, as well. That hit was reckless, dangerous and potentially had intent to injure as part of it. I don't care that it was from behind. What concerns me is that Wilson decided he needed to come in at full speed to hit a mostly stationary player that close to the boards.

I kind of feel that if the West gets to enjoy having 2 less teams compete for 8 playoff spots, they can suck it about the obvious East/West talent inequity.

He certainly hasn't produced for them, yet. They've already wasted 2 years of his ELC, but, they can still save a year of his RFA status for the last time.
 
Tavares had a big game. 3 goals, 2 assists, good enough to launch him into 3rd in points.
