I read an article about the Blue Jackets looking to trade up to #3.  If that doesn't happen, would it be smart for the Leafs to drop down to #8 and pick up a second rounder or two (or more)?  At #8 Zacha, Barzal, Werenski and maybe even Crouse will be available I would expect.

Does it make sense?

Seems like the logic of it is pretty self-evident. If there's a team at #8 or wherever who's willing to trade all of that to move up to #4 then clearly they think that who they could take at #4 is significantly more valuable than who they'd take at #8.

There are other ways for the Leafs to add second rounders, there aren't other ways for them to add top 5 picks.

Too busy to read last 85+ pages.

I know Sportsnet is televising the 1st round on Friday but I see nothing for the Saturday?

Previously the NHL network televised the 2nd round on but for some reason the NHL network
has disappeared from my Bell Sat listing....

Anyone have any idea?

Looks like Sportsnet is just broadcasting it on Friday. NHL Network has the Saturday rounds.

I'm pretty sure nhl.com usually has a stream from the draft, just in case you don't have NHL network.

NBC will have a stream on their website for day 2, so worst case scenario I'm sure that there will be a stream of that stream up somewhere.

that is suprising, I would have thought there would be a lot more action right now. Or are they waiting for the day to build the drama?

More likely that teams are taking the time to make sure they get the best deals possible. Deals don't generally get going until draft day, because that's when the pressure really builds up.

It's a cat and mouse game.  Right up until a draft pick is traded, this is the most valuable time for them because there are 29 teams that can potentially be in play for a player/picks/prospects unlike the trade deadline when there are more clearly defined buyers and sellers.

Short of something absurd like Edmonton or Buffalo offering their 1st round pick for Kessel, the Leafs will continue to shop until they get a deal that won't be improved upon by anyone else.  There is also no real need for the Leafs to make ANY trades prior to the draft.  They could wait until the handful of mediocre free agents get signed and then walk up to the pseudo-contender teams and offer them Kessel or Phaneuf for draft picks and prospects from the 2016 draft.

The goalie market is kind of flooded right now. Lehner, Lack, Markstrom, Talbot and Jones are all said to be available. Throw in Reimer and/or Bernier, plus the UFAs available, and you have more goalies available than starting positions. I doubt any of them get moved for a 1st round pick.

On that list MAYBE, Talbot gets you a late 1st round pick.  I think it would still be risky as he's a guy with a career high of 36 games but he was great for New York when Henrik went down with injury.  He has two great years under his belt with the Rangers and supposedly they have turned down an offer of multiple 2nd round picks so I could see a team maybe giving up a 1st for him.  That's the only guy I would consider it and that would still have me wary as New York has a strong defensive system that promotes low scoring games.

According to Dreger, there was an offer of 2 second round picks for Talbot, but that offer was turned down.  It may end up closing the deal, but this is likely a ploy to drive up his price.  Who knows who's telling the truth about anything this week.
