How did Vanek drop so far that he got a 1-year, 2.6 million contract and Matt Martin gets 4years at 2.5?

Playoff performance is important to teams.

Really?  That important?  That seems dumb ... small sample size ...

Matt Martin was amazing in the playoffs?

I remember his post deadline stint with the Habs which included a complete disappearing act in the playoffs.  Didn't he end up getting scratched?

Martin did basically the same in the playoffs, that he did through the season.

He's isn't a player you put on your team to improve it.  He's a player you put on it to protect it. Avoid Philly sandwiches to young rookie star players and such.

But seriously, even though the trade deadline obviously foreshadowed this, I'm still pretty surprised. I mean maybe he took a tiny bit less because of his familiarity with the team, but I still can't believe he couldn't get any term here.

Vatanen got 4 years 4.875 to Barrie's 5.5. I wonder where Lindholm comes in.

I wasn't sure where to put it but the Islanders signed Ryan Strome to a 2 year/5 million dollar deal. Not really NHL news, doesn't deserve its own thread and the dollar amount says relatively minor signing but he was pretty good a year ago I thought. Then a bad follow up year and he signs on the cheap.
