Do you think the Leafs waive Levio today? I am hoping Martin/Polak waived or to the IR.

Martin to the IR with a bruised ego?

If you waive Polak,  there is 0 risk he gets claimed.  He can go to the Marlies on paper...and is available in the future to make Babcock happy

There you have it, Lou gives not one single damn about rules.

It would be nice if they could find a place for him on the fourth line. Can Komarov place center?

I could've told you this.

Nylander is sneaky good too. He doesn't just use his stick though; he comes in with speed, gets behind the stick and skates through the puckhandling and subsequent contact to force turnovers.

Marner is also a great puck thief, but he's not as good holding it when standing still (the way Matthews and Nylander are). Lots of his early season penalty trouble stemmed from being too easily stick checked and then having to reach with his.

Nothing to be surprised about.  It just goes to show how highly skilled these player's are with a stick.  Stick-checking is by no means an easy form to master, but once it is, there's no stopping an artful stick-checker who also happens to score a lot and uses speed to one's advantage.

Dermott and Kapanen are here to stay: 3LD and 4RW. Leapfrogging several guys. Leafs are fully healthy right now. I'm assuming they're keeping everyone for the drive and playoffs. I still think a banging fourth line can really add a desperately lacking element for the playoffs. Some physical pushback. Not really worth it in the regular season, but in a seven game series? A worthy investment. I remember pre-concussion Soshnikov on the right with Martin on the left with Boyle down the middle and I was like, wow. And they were bangin'. Plus Polak put a guy out in the Caps series last year with a clean hit. That Bruins series is gonna be war. So I think they find a way to keep all hands on deck for the rest of the year. We'll see...

Matthews didn't score last night, but that's okay.

This guy totally scored though, so all the off-day articles are about his majesty.

Nylander is on pace for 64 points ? a three-point improvement over what was an impressive rookie campaign a year ago.

He has 13 points in his last 10 games ? and every single one came at even strength. Nylander is now tied for 12th in the entire NHL in even-strength points, tied with superstars like Alex Ovechkin, Steven Stamkos and Vladimir Tarasenko.

Nylander's strength is that he has many of them: his passing, skating, stickhandling and shooting are all elite.

Never forget Doug McLean and the rest of the media geniuses were calling for a Nylander trade more than a year ago.

I also know that sports media on tv and radio often have people deliberately playing particular 'roles' on air that is not necessarily representative of who they actually are to generate discussion/drama.

Those Nylander rumours are the reason that I have a Matthews Centennial Classic jersey in the closet, and not a Nylander jersey.  I was afraid of paying big bucks for a jersey of a guy who was gone by the big game.  With that said, a Matthews jersey is not a bad consolation prize.

Dreger once said he thought Nylander would have been traded if the Leafs managed to sign Jimmy freakin' Vesey.

It would be unfathomable for the Leafs to trade Nylander.  That is regardless of what the media says, thinks, recommends, or opines.

14. As the website Cap Friendly pointed out, both Minnesota (Zach Parise) and New Jersey (Mirco Mueller) benefitted from players being allowed on injured reserve after appearing in AHL games. But there is something that makes people crazy about Lou Lamoriello doing it. With Parise/Mueller, not a peep. But Nikita Soshnikov? Wow, were teams upset.

?[Soshnikov] was running over people in the AHL yesterday!? one exec texted.

Wheeeeeeeeee

Anyone else find themselves doodling line combos with Tavares on the Leafs next year?

No?

Just me?

Ok, sorry.

I've been quiet about it to avoid public humiliation, but I do think the Leafs take a healthy run at him just like they did with Stamkos and I don't think it's completely out of the question that he'll strongly consider what we have to offer.
