2017 Off-season Trades/Signings Discussion

This was my favourite part:

?I would pay him well,? Werenka says of Russell. ?He does make a high number of defensive mistakes, but it?s part of the nature of how he plays. I think he?s underrated. He?s drastically underrated.

Another part that made me laugh:

?You can say this is subjective, but there?s been a couple phrases we like to use: Consistent subjectivity equals objectivity. And how do you know if that consistent subjectivity is meaningful, if it makes sense, is right? That?s where your correlation to winning comes in.?

For which I was reminded of this:

Chris Neil has been informed the Senators will not be re-signing him.

Francois Beauchemin has been bought out by the Avs.

There is also some trade chatter about interest in Phaneuf, who has 4 years left at $7 AAV, but declining actual salary (7.5/6.5/6.5/5.5). Rangers? Vegas?

Carolina has bridged Teuvo Teravainen to 2 years 2.86 AAV.

There's a din of rumour-murmurs around Galchenyuk+ for Drouin as well.

That feels like a very Montreal move. Bring in a smaller, highly skilled winger, while moving bigger, still very skilled C coming off a down year.

And Drouin is french, while Galchenyuk isn't.

I pride myself on my ability to be consistently wrong.

I understand this sort of thing for coaches and GMs... but does Montreal really prioritize language/nationality to the point they'd sell low/overpay?

I dunno, but it's fun for me to pretend they would.

Fake trade deadline causing some traffic.

VAN extends Gudbranson 1 yr 3.5M.

Which is good for me because the chance he becomes a Leaf is 0%.

Incarcerated Bob, a twitter user who semi-broke the Subban and Hall deals last year, is beating the drum that the Leafs are about to make a splash for a defenseman (Hamonic, De Haan, Vatanen, or Barrie). Apply grain of salt liberally. I want Trouba.

Oh great, Incarcerated Bob, about as reliable as Eklund.

He's mildly more reliable, in that he might have a 4% success rate compared to Eklund's 3%.

I think anyone on here can have that success rate just with educated guesses of the names that are thrown around.

Oh, I agree. I think the only real difference is that bob doesn't through the Leafs/Habs/Rangers/Flyers into rumours about every big name player to get clicks, since he doesn't have his own website.
