This seems like a fantastic trade for Carolina. I always liked Nino, but his cap hit made him impossible to fit here.

Niederreiter is a possession beast but isn't scoring much this season, so pretty much a perfect fit for Carolina.

I'm genuinely curious if he's related to you or something because the guy is on his 4th team in 3 years, and Philly had to retain $150k of his $800K salary on this 28 year old's expiring deal.  He has 2 points in 26 games this year.

I'm super curious, so what possibly do you see in this dump?

He would have been a perfectly serviceable #7 defence man. The Leafs have a few of those. He wouldn't crack the team's top 6 when everyone is healthy.

This sucks for me personally because I was hoping at some point he would get reunited with his childhood best friend Tavares.  On to better things.  Have been in Detroit for the past week andI heard from a couple people  that Nicholas Kronwall is on the Leafs radar.  He is a student of Babcock so there could at least be some smoke here.

Problem is he's a lefty so unless Gardiner is getting moved, I don't see it happening.
