Semi-Final results for Friday Feb. 23:
Oh boy, oh boy. Shocking.
Team Germany deservedly beats Team Canada 4-3 and advances to it's first Olympic hockey Gold medal game ever. This will definitely do wonders for German hockey interest.
But, for Canada, it was, is, an embarrassment to say the least. For a team bent on wanting to impress with their lineup of Euro pros, semi-pros, etc.,-- in the absence of NHL participants in this Olympic Ice Hockey event, -- well, it looked more like Canada opted to deliberately lose.
The question isn't even that they lost but why. For a bunch of players who should be familiar with that type of Euro hockey style, the ice surface, etc.,etc., it actually looked quite the opposite for this one Semi-final that has now brought nothing short of disgrace to this team and it's previous results that got them here in this Semi-final in the first place.
The Germans played a physical tight game and could not be more elated with the victory. Having staked a 3-0 lead before the Canadians finally woke up, it was no doubt going to be a German victory through and through. This just wasn't Team Canada's day.
Blame what you will, poor execution, tiredness, a nonchalant attitude (the we're going to win anyways attitude), no matter, if the Canadians had played a real hockey game in the tradition of how Canada knows instead of in the name of abandonment (of strategy), the results would surely have been different.
Hey, we
were supposed to go on to the Gold medal game at least, weren't we? Don't ask.

Elsewhere, Team OAR (Olympic Athletes from Russia) shut out Team Czech Republic 3-0, and advanced to the Gold Medal game against Team Germany.
Russian goaltender Vasili Koshechkin stonewalled the Czechs all the way.
This will be Russia's first Gold medal appearance in twenty years. Quite the achievement as this squad, with their all-Star lineup, as been the favourites in this Olympic Men's Ice Hockey event to win Gold.
