2019-2020 Toronto Maple Leafs General Discussion

Bring up both Sandin and Lily and let them get used to the NHL (unless there are some waiver/contract/future expansion draft issues I'm not aware of). They're going to be playing major roles next year so might as well get things moving in that direction. Sorry MM, you can go back to 7th dman.

Our players are starting to drop like flies. We've lost our two best defensemen at this point. What do we do going forward? Do we trade Johnsson/Kappy to try and acquire something else?

I don't think you get nearly enough return for even Kappy + Mango to be replacement level of either one of our missing D. I think you call up Sandin and cross your fingers that he can handle NHL minutes, that Dermott can up his game, and that Muz is back soon. If we can tread water a bit, we might survive.
You can't start selling everything off because of injuries and being in a position of weakness. I think Dermott will be with Holl and Sandin with Barrie. I think at some point I'd like to see them bring Liljegren up and be Sandin's parner like it is on the Marlies. Muzz is the key right now though. If he comes back, things could settle down pretty fast.

I'd put Marincin back with Holl. I think the larger reason they got split up in the first place was because they just wanted to see Dermott higher in the line-up. Now he can go up even one more pair and play with Barrie. Sandin plays with Ceci to start, plus he gets the PP2 defenceman spot.

This way when Muzzin returns he can slide back to his pair with Holl and the others don't get mixed up again. Sandin gets eased in a little more, throwing him up to the Barrie pairing at this point in the season would seem like a little too much. If he's crushing it after a little while then we can talk about moving him up.

I don?t see anyone suggesting selling everything off at this point. The team has to explore the options available from moving pieces where they have depth. If Kapanen or Mango can be the key piece in a deal that upgrades the blue line longer-term, and potentially shores up the backup goalie situation, you have to consider it, regardless of the current injury situation.

I never said anyone did. The trade the Leafs need to make 1st is for a back up goalie, not a D man. We're not getting a top 2 guy Dman anyway because we simply can't afford it unless Rielly isn't coming back until the playoffs.

The Leafs might be down another key member for the next little while.
Martina Ortiz-Luis landed a gig in season 4 of Wynonna Earp (which is a very fun show, if you ever got into Buffy/Angel).

What's their shooting schedule like? Looks like Martina will be free from mid April right through to early October...

Streaky Andersen:

We all know Freddy is a streaky goalkeeper, but that doesn?t take away the fact that the Leafs wouldn?t be where they are if not for him.

They're flying her back for the anthem tonight, right? Right?!

But seriously, good for her. And yeah Wynonna Earp is a great show. Glad the 4th season is finally happening.

Maybe he's here to sing the anthem?

With Johnsson back there was no need for 2 extra forwards. He's only played 11 games with the Marlies this season so hopefully he has a good second half there and comes into camp next year ready to go.

With that said he really didn't do anything in the 3 games (and limited ice-time) to impress me. He was supposed to be a guy who could throw his body around and I never really saw that.

He was just coming off an injury before the call up. I don't think he had the footspeed (or confidence) to play that game this time.

Maybe. But in that case it's weird that they would call him up and play him ahead of a number of other deserving Marlies.
