All right you chumps, now you've gone and made me angry. And you really shouldn't do that.
Let me explain a couple of things to you.
"Lockdown" was a brilliant nickname for Schenn. (A) It's alliterative (twice over) with his first name, so it sounds good when you say it. (B) It actually expressed something about his game, or at least what everyone expected his game to be ? the guy who can "lock it down." The fact that he ended up with a so-so career, and didn't live up to that nickname, is not my fault. (C) And, best of all, it isn't an infantile variation on either of his given names.
Which is what "Lilypad" is. It's not funny, it's not memorable, and it has absolutely nothing to do with the player or with the game. The image that comes to mind when you hear that word is a frog, not a hockey player. It is stupid in every possible universe, and people who insist on using it are imbeciles.
Finally, the fact the some players may call him that just locks down my case. 8) 8) 8) Because, as I believe Nik once so memorably said, almost all pro hockey players are dopes.
